Major fuel consumpsion on 4afe

ok im getting horrible mpg.. like 10mpg type of shit and i need guidence as to why this is happening. troubleshooting this problem is my main priorty.

Factors:-

-1990 toyota corolla

-4afe fuel injected engine, 18x,xxxmiles

-5speed, short shfter installed

-short ram intake, hetcoated

-spark plugs "ngk v-power", oil and oil filter "mobil one", ignition wires "duralast" were changed about 4,xxxmiles ago

-smell fuel when im inside the car driving

-i think it still as the same fuel filter that came with the car... in 1990......

-suspension is wore out.. pretty bad

-tranny most likely has to get new gear oil

Please guys, i need help and am very thankful for any given to me..

change that fuel filter if u think its hella old. check for fuel leaks at or around fuel rail and injectors.

Check to see if any stored codes that may not light the check engine light.

If the leak is decently sized u would be able to see the (water stain.. for the lack of better wording) of the dried up fuel. Best way would be to turn on the car so fuel is flowing and check for leaks... a fuel pressure Guatemala would also let u know if ur bellow spec due to a leak or w.e else.

As far as checking for codes u can jump pins I. The obd1 plug and it flashes the codes. Just don't know the sequence, but I'm sure its online somewhere

The link shows how and where to jumper the terminals to read the codes without a code reader counting the flashes on check engine light. If your oxy sensor is the original it could be a part of the problem.
