Replacing coolant hose

On a 4AF, has anyone replaced the coolant hose that goes from the thermostat to a pipe on the driver side. It goes under the intake manifold. Is there a simple way to removing this hose...lol.
It has the original spring type clamps and none of my tools seem to work in this situation. The hose leaks badly and needs to be replaced. Replaced radiator and all other radiator and heater hoses. I didn't know that one was there. Any help and advice is appreciated...need to get this done soon before winter.

Thanks
E777

I believe on the other end is the backside of the water pump. And I think I can be mistaken, there's a thick plate between the carb and its mount on the intake that has a single tube where coolant runs thru it. Or was it an electrical component? I forgot. I remember seeing coolant when I removed my carburetor...

You can get it a lot easier by crawling underneath. Drain the coolant first to minimize getting a sweet bath.

It's not underneath the car it's up by the thermostat housing, going slightly under the intake manifold. How would going underneath be easier?

i recently replaced this hose, i know what your talking about eagle777... what i did was took some dikes out, cut the lame clamps, ran a razor blade through the hose to take it off, then afterwards i put the water grease on the ends, slide it in with no problems, then replaced with new worm clamps because tightening a screw is easier than trying to clamp that old clamp back in place.

That's a good idea ayang951, but the clamps aren't wire. They're the band style and I don't think dikes will work. I have thought about using a dremel tool to cut the clamps off, but not sure how well that will work. Any more advice anyone

well what you can do is use a nice set of plyers and bend them so they can come off, i did that before i used my dikes and cut them in half... i probably spent like 40mins trying to fish the plyers to remove the clamp... then i got frustrated and bent it, cut it and never looked back... so i replaced with a worm clamp and it was so easy to tightened it...

i understand your pain, although its not the 4afe, i had to replace my waterline that ran from the thermostate to the pipe behind the engine block. those old clamps are a pain to get off or on. as others said having a nice set of clamp plyers will help alot, even still patience is key (you know the long needle nose ones, the 45 degree angle ones and 90 degree ones). i ended up fiddling with mine for a good hr til it finally got on right. truely a pain.....
