AE92 Rolling project 'Rolla

Hey ya'll, fairly new to these forums (all the others i've tried are crap!) But i'm hoping I can come into an active forum site to give and get some advice as I can. I'm now on my second 1989 coupe (GT-S) and while this one is worlds better than the first, I've still got a laundry list of issues to sort and dig through. If anyone's got any insight or experienced the issues before, gimmie a shout, i'm looking for any advice I can get on these, because I really do enjoy owning my redrolla, and want it to last. Keep in mind that, in any engine dealings, it doesn't have the low-comp 4A, but the higher comp from a 91.

First off, I have cooling issues. The car stays cool, no overheating, but i'm not getting any coolant to the throttle body nor to the heater core (sucks in winter!). There's no thermostat present. It's got a new water pump installed as well. I'm thinking the previous owner did a bypass somewhere.

Second is high-idle: This one I think could be tied to the coolant issues. When I start my revvs will stick at around 2K, and slowly idle down to normal ~1K as the temp gauge reaches normal.

You'd expect as well, after replacing the master AND slave clutch cylinders, your fluid would be clean and you'd be able to retain it. Well, not I. Almost a year, and I'm still losing fluid, and it's constantly dirty. The only thing that hasn't been replaced on the hydraulic system are the lines themselves.

Intermittent blinkers: only when it rains though, and only sometimes does it actually short. Sometimes the rain makes them go away, sometimes they survive through the Florida downpours.

The only other thing that I'm experiencing is intermittent starting, though i'm pretty sure it's just the starter going out. Whenever it doesn't go through and kick over like normal, it just takes rolling the vehicle a little ways and popping the clutch in first to get the motor to function normally.

Other things on my list only I have to worry about? Bearings, shocks, axle seals, transmission flywheel and clutch, wiring, acquisition of tough-to-find parts (new dash, domelight, misc. exterior and interior parts and pieces), and sorting out what's going on with the A/C.

She's definitely a project, but a worthy one. When it's love, it's love. I just wish I'd get some shown back to me!

first off, i want to say welcome to TN... this is really a good community for toyota lovers to the next. also that is great that you have a nice GTS and best of luck with you on it. second on the cooling issue i believe since its staying at cold and etc is because there is no thermostat, i did this once on a 240sx and it stayed cool all the time because the water is constantly circulating and not just in 2 different loads. but then again, when i sat in traffic it will overheat because of the water circulating and not in different loads to cool one then to the next... if not that, then probably your water temp plug is bad? im not to sure, on how that really all works though. on your clutch though, you said its always dirty and etc? did you flush out all the old fluid and then added new fluid? and if your running out of clutch fluid more than likely you probably have a leak some where on the line then. on the started you should probably get it checked out at a local autopart store, idk about florida but kragen/o'reily, autozone, pepboys and napa checks those for free, you just have to bring them in. try hitting it with a hammer, to see if the solenoids are getting stuck or etc. but yeah i understand, that car is a fun Toy. i used to have one a long time ago, thinking about another one, but atm im playing with my sedan, if i end up keeping it, i want to go 2zzge with all GTS suspension, with coilovers. if i find myself a little broker then, i might just go with all GTS swap and a 4agze. but who knows, i havent made up my mind yet, and idk if i might or might not sell my car. but yeah once again, welcome to Toyota Nation, and there are LOTs of active members on this forum, trust me, you start a TOPIC here and itll have members talking on it SO long that it will go into another direction totally. =D
