I've had my 89 corolla gts for a month now. While searching google and youtube of how to be a ricer as a fwd corolla i couldnt find any 89 corolla vs anything at all, but a bunch of muffler revving ppl. My friend owns a 1989 mazda mx 6 with his 140 hp 190torque i began to think hmm this car beats mine. Dont get me wrong i love this gts it is my first standard driving car which i learned easy as peas compared to the ford zx3 which gave me whiplash to hell. I wanted the one from the intial d but was not lucky to find one. Ive done small research how these cars do good in downhill curves, around turns and stuff. I've learned that downshifting to 2nd or high rpms at 1st gear grinds my 2nd gear so i'll be needing a new gearing box or tranny. question is should i save up for an mr2 engine swap or get a new tranny.

why would you get a engine swap from a mr2 when you already have a 4age in your car?

i'd say just gt a stage one clutch, new flywheel/apr bolts, new gear oil, ae101 short shifter, and call it good.

and i kinda don't understand the "how to be ricer" part, were you being serious? if you were being serious, i just could say avoid being ricer anything..

Hey, welcome. First I hope u mean racer not ricer lol. Second don't worry about this vs that. Most of those view are straight line drag and the car is not gonna make enough power to do drag unless u drop $$$ on it. It can be done but not what this car was built for.

U've seen initial d cool so have . Forget it! Lol its a cartoon and has given alot of cars hella hype. Specially the ae86 (83-87 corolla gts)
your gts actually has the same motor as the famous hatchi roku... u have the right idea with the downhill driving these cars are very good handling cars (canyon carvers) but u live in Vegas and any good mountain roads are in California. I've looked!!! What u can do is join an organisation like scca and do Autocross. A lot of the guys here do and put the ae92 to the limit in a safe place.

As far as ur granny goes. Change the gear oil in and use 90/140 I think is the right weight. Thick stuff. Forget about swaps for now. before that I would just swap in a newer granny and learn to drive the car. The grinding can be stooped by rev matching ( heel/toe)

I live in Vegas too so if u need any help I'd be happy too.
Oh if u wanna see what these things do in autocross look up eage8 and watch the videos. Donald has a awesome Autocross thread. Read it... its long but a good read.

Not another fanboy... goodluck with modding this car, I owned two of them and were fun to drive and somewhat easy to work with, the aftermarket is not the best but then again they're not a Civic.

if you want to drag against a v6, and want to swap the motor, just go 4age black top or 4agze... but no need to be a ricer... just be tasteful... do what you want to do, not what everyone else's do...

swap a 1mzfe from a camry and throw on the trd supercharger, and run some 245's or 275's up front no one on the street should be able to touch you.

How bout just sell the corolla and buy a faster car. I bought a faster car, but nobody wants to buy my corolla

You're going to have a hard time beating a V6 mazda, its got more power. Even 1.6 vs 1.6 the mazda beats a corolla, thats why mazdas are popular here in grass roots racing, they just dominate over others.

I would definitely try to get into autocross. It's a great way to improve your car control and find out what you and your car can do.

you can see my videos on my youtube channel (along with some rallycross videos haha):

i recommend that, if you want to keep the corolla, just do what flashmn suggests... either just commute in it, or get a faster car, i mean, the corolla dont get me wrong, i LOVE them, but i just dont see the potential out of it, unless i was to drop some serious $$$$ into it, but then again, all that money will make a faster car, faster... but on the corolla, what i think, is that just make it tasteful and look nice... nothing to fast and furious about it, i mean shoot, even in the movie, johnny tran had a red paseo in his garage next to the hondas... =D

there's plenty of examples of these cars that are fast, if you wanna go with somthing different then go ahead. in the end cars = waste of money period, its a hobby, its fun, it occupys our time. so what if this is faster than that, of course if its engeered differently to be so. how boring would it be to see the streets filled with supercars. theres a point and time when people just gonna have to accept that theres always gonna be someone faster than you.

besides i really do think that a 1mzfe with trd supercharger + 275 wide tires will be hard to beat. if you want it to handle well spend the money to make it that way, if you want it to be fast in the 1/4, spend the money on the engine or get another engine capable of doing the job. all a car is, is a shell with an engine and braking componets. you gotta pay to play.

i think one of my biggest inspirations is the TOP SETUP civic in the american togue. the things an underdog that is setup RIGHT and dominates against cars that are supposed to be faster. it just proves that if you can setup a car properly it can be quite fast, but more importanly its gotta be fun for you. if its not fun for you then its not the car for you.

yeah i understand you, i mean it all comes down to how much $$$$ you have and want to spend to play the game... i mean, if your just wanting to do some drag shoot outs, then its either the v6 supercharge or another car in general... but IMHO in the drag scene i would have went with a RWD car though. there is just more options in the HIGH POWER in the RWD platform. but on the corolla, its either go suspension, get a little power and just own with skills, its like everyone in MW everyone is using rifles and your only using a pistol and knife... but all in all, you can do anything...

personally owning MR2's before i would choose a MR platform over a FR. the MR2 was able to lauch and grab so good. i understand that a good starting platform for those who wanna spend less to get more is the smart way. all im saying is its boring, but it comes down to if your having fun, in flashmans case his corolla was breaking down quite a bit, imo that isnt fun. i would have ran for a different car as he did, or swapped in a different engine if my country/state allows it.

btw ayang951 CHUCK NORRIS dont need NO knife in a gun fight.....

there was one locally going for $575, i was so tempeted to do it before i picked up the beams, but i figured out it was a drive by wire version of the 1mzfe. just did not wanna deal with having to get all the parts to make that work. if i ever do a v6 i think imma get another sw20 and drop it in that instead, maybe 2grfe.
