1990 Corolla Transmission Swap

The transmission in my 1990 Corolla (sedan, 5-speed manual, FWD) needs to be replaced. I'm heading to the junkyard on Saturday to try and find a replacement. What different year and model transmissions will fit right in where my old one was? Thanks for any help in this matter.

anything off any A series engine. sedan, wagon, sr5, or gts. 88-98 i think. w/e last year of the ae111 was lol. note they all have different gearing. gts has the shortest 88-92. any 4af/4afe should have the same gears, sr5 sedan or wagon. not sure on the 7afe gearing but it should be the same as the 4af/e.

short answer. find a manual corolla 88-98 (for sake of argument) and use it, if ur not worried about gear ratios.

What would a different gear ratio mean/effect?

different gear ration would mean the car will pull through the gears quicker or slower. the only major difference will be in normal highway cruising speed if the gears are short then the engine will rev higher in 5th than the longer gears. most have very similar gear ratios except for a gts trans. finding one of those at a junkyard is rare so its safe to say u should feel any major difference with anything of a sedan, wagon or sr5 coupe.
