Gen6 DIY Ethanol Conversion on 4A-F

I have an 89 corolla carb w/3sp auto just sitting around. I've recently gotten into home brewing beer, and I stumbled upon plans for a DIY 55 gallon barrel fuel cooker. I see all these kits for sale to convert cars to ethanol in the hundreds of dollars. But just how hard can it be to get that damned old 4A-F to burn that stuff? I would just use the car for freeway trips to concerts and stuff, just for a cheap ride that I cooked my own fuel for. I've read about ways to increase intake manifold temp and other stuff that seems easy enough. My main questions I guess are:
1. Will the carb mix it as is, or do I jet it larger?
2. Do you think starting will be a problem? (OK goes from -10 to 110)
3. Are there any major problems you see?
I'm looking for super cheap here, and bonus points for innovative uses of other parts/materials.

I'd be more worried about ethanol and diaphragms, such as in the fuel pump and in the carb. Also various seals can fail.

I've read about rubber deterioration, but I wonder how long it would take to see damage from that? Months? Years?
I'm not all that worried about the car, as it has been blown up, rebuilt, shelled trans, fixed, almost rally raced, etc. (It's a fairly rough car)
It has the old manual fuel pump on it, I could replace it with an alcohol safe pump.
The fuel lines are no problem, even if I have to run all new line. (It's cheap enough)

If the rubber damage takes a long time to see, this project may have lived and died by then.

That depends on the rubber, hard to say how long it takes. Took me very little time for the O-rings to expand from fuel and fuel vapors on my weber carb tops when I had them.
