The Ghetto Ae91 "Build Thread"

i came across a 1990 Toyota corolla sedan, fuel injected"4afe", 180,xxx miles unknown trim, 5 speed manual for 600.00 with no rust, minor body damage, interior issues and last tune up was almost a year and a half ago.

Plans of the build is to go with the flow with it. nothing flashy, nothing "too" rice'd, just clean and decently fast to be a daily driver. but.... cheap lol. i know those words don't go with each other in a paragraph but im set with it..

when i bought it.

went to Autozone, got a basic intake pipe "for a honda, i didn't know ae91's had any aftermarket intakes", a short volocity air filter, and cutted it to fit, took the oem crap out, installed it and made it sound mean, lol

since i engine enameled the intake, i decided to do the same to the motor

i added some really cheap fog lights that never worked for me and a home depo lip, which made it look nice but i wasn't sure how long it'd last

Got a grant steering wheel " oh to get the oem steering wheel off get some pb blaster, spray it down, wait like a hour, and shake the shit out of the steering wheel"

a weighted shift knob, ae101 short shifter kit "homie put it in for me", Autozone shift boot to replace the rubber boot, touch foglight switch, and a new oem radio wiring harness, aftermarket wire harness, " the oem wiring harness had diffrent colors, it was from a 89' corolla dx" a Dual reciever, added a 10" sound stream sub, offbrand amp, 4" Autozone OEM speakers which didn't really bolt up to the stock placements i ended up rubber sementing them and slapped what nut that held the in place to the thread, 6.5" HD two ways in the speaker perches, i hd to grind the out.

got ahold of a e30 front lip for cheap
"$30.00"

added it to the front of the rolla, it fit great in the front, but was like six inches short on the sides, so.... i just thought of oldschool chin lips i seen on RA celica and whatnot and just Ghetto rigged it from there with duct tape and fiberglass

tinted my headlights and taillights, Added some DA1 integra 13" wheels with good tires, it looked way better to me

i decided that not having a exhaust is going to be a problem with emissions but i ordered some parts to get it out the way... but ended up being too broke to put the new exhaust on so i went up to the emissions anyway

got my muffler, cat, and 7afe headers in the mail...

still too broke to add the exhaust but i did add the header, which reminds me that i need to get on the exhaust thread and update it..
drew up how i wanted my exhaust done though

got bored and blacked out the front end "riced"

replace my rear taillight with a 91' corolla taillight, fitted good even though it had a diffrent style to it, but it didnt matter because it got tinted

and.... decided to spray paint the whole car, which was the best ten dollar investment in my book

if you're gonna grab the struts, grab the hubs with brakes too. they are bigger and you'll appreciate the additional stopping power. they will slip onto the balljoint, but when you bolt the castle nut down it will be barely all the way down and you may need to use saftey wire instead of the cotter pin. small trade off for WAY BETTER braking power. the cotter pin only keeps the nut from backing off and the saftey wire will do that.

and if you wanna go cheap on wheels, you can get 04-06 scion xb/xa or yaris 4x100 wheels. they are 15x6 and 195/50 fit nice on them. last set i found was $40 for all 4.

i do need a new valve cover because of my new cylinder head, lol.

the turbo manifold is from a B-series "B20", and i do got my header's installed but what i was gonna do is when my new head comes in the mail and my engine rebuild kit i was gonna swap the flanges from the header, cut the b-series flanges off and get it tig welded for like $50.00 from the homeboy.
