89 Celica + 90 Corolla sedan = 3S-FE sleeper?

I just bought two running cars for dirt cheap. 1990 Corolla Sedan with 290k 4A-FE and 5 speed. And a 1989 Celica with a 3S-FE and an auto that's slipping. I think I can get a 2.0 Corolla out of this. Anyone done it yet? If it can be done, I'm gonna use my spare 3S-FE ( yes spare ) and build a turbo trak pak I can drop and swap for some crazy weekend warrioring. Thanks for any tips/comments/jeering.

What kind of mounts did you need to use? I'm assuming to use my stock 5-speed I'm gonna need a 2.0 flywheel and clutch, and I'm not positive but I think I can pull the main engine mount off the Celica and use that. My bigger concern is wiring, since the Celica has popup headlights. But that should be ok. I haven't seen this swap so I don't even know what I'm actually doing.

Now its been 5 years since we worked on it and the car is long sold since. IIRC we had to move the passenger side engine mount a bit.

And no you cant use the 4A transmission, it wont fit in any case. You'll have to use the transmission with the 3S-FE, which leads to another problem, the track width was IIRC wider, so you'll need to do some work on the axles and find hubs to fit. We used Celica/Carina front hubs and MR2/Celica rear hubs for disk brakes, unless you want to have mix and matched hubs which would work too... cant remember which they were from though...

You only need the engine - Ecu wiring stuff for it to work. Oh and since theres a celica and I assume its 4X4... why dont you convert the corolla into a 4X4, sure its bucket loads more work and maybe the AE95 AWD corolla would be better, but... I wouldnt hesitate to mod the chassis.

i imagine doing a 3sfe into the sedan is pretty much the same process as the 3sge, heres what im doing atm, wife got me early christmas present: sneak peak of what's to come im not going to go into to much detail with the mounthing cause in the category i find different people use different methods, but what i did for the mounts where, i used the c52 rear and right hand mount. i had to modify the mounting plate for the right hand mount to move it backwards inturn moving the transmission forawrd. the front is a celica mount. the cam timing side is a celica mount. both have to be made/customized to fit. since as i said i used the c52 right hand mount i had to also lower the transmission with a 1/2" aluminum block. the important thing when doing this that i stressed the most was leveling the engine and making sure the axles line right.

for axles since the track on most the S series engine cars have a wider track it means they have longer axles. so i grabbed some bolt on axles from a 88' manual camry and used the diff part, i then mated that part to the 84-87 aw11 axles. i dont know how strong this combo is as for hard launching since my car isnt running yet, but its as short as your stock axles. you also get to use an intermediate shaft.

for the shifter linkage, the s5X tranny will have a casted on shim area, you will need to use shift linkages from either the celica year you have or what i did was used the shifter linkages from the 88' manual camry, it uses the same shifter base as the corolla gt-s.

hope this helps a little.

So I finally drove my new Celica around the block aaaaaaaaand, we are no longer doing a 2.0 Corolla. We're doing a 5-speed swap on my Celica. Ill keep the corolla to teach cousins to drive a clutch.
