Question 4af carburetor : flood after turning off the engine

hi guys.. i have a question about my 1600 4af carb..

-after i shut off the engine.. theres a terrible smell of gas.. it only happens sometimes
-sometimes the engine runs with fuel economy. sometimes worse gas millage

im thinking my engine running too hot.. so when im in a terrible traffic the fuel consumption is worse.. so im thinking when im on a highway.. temp drop. the fuel consumption decrease..
sometimes when i shut off the engine theres a terrible smell of gas. it happens sometimes.. and when i look at the barrel its like a boiling water. the gas evaporate?. but why?.. my engine temp is right on middle.. its not overheat?.. need more coolant?. should i put insulator at the carb?.. i just clean the carb a month ago and running fine.. float level is fine. jet, seat, ect, settings good.. new repair kit.. what should i do?.. cool the engine?.. and now im searching at google finding some answer. and i saw one answer about carb too hot.. and i post it here.. guys i need your advice

Fuel is percolating in fuel bowl and flooding engine. Float level should be in middle of sight glass. If the level is too high it will aggravate it. Check for leaks on carb and fuel pump area. Check engine temp with a hand held sensor to verify accuracy of your temp gauge. Make sure timing is set to factory spec.

it only happens if the engine is hot..

the fan turn on when the temp is right on the middle.. should i adjust it a little lower?

and one question.. how can i adjust the secondary jet to open in a higher rpm? its a vacuum operated right?.. for example the secondary will open at 3000 or 4000 rpm?.. i want to adjust it to 5500 or 5000 i want the secondary open as late as possible

Your fan kicks on at the proper temp. Not adjustable as it's triggered by temp sensor. Can't offer any help on procedure to adjust secondary.

i have research it on google.. it says i can adjust it by the spring.. replacing the secondary diaphram spring.. yeah the secondary is controlled by the vacuum.. so if i change the spring to ticker spring.. i think it should work.. some of my friend told me that i can buy spring from autosupply.. the spring # is 12 - 20 i guess..

about the temp.. my engine still using pure water.. so i replace it to coolant.. i hope it will help to cool the engine bay.. and im planing to put a thermal cloth on my headers. i think that the source of heat..
