Engine's Knocking and don't know what to do about it..

I can't really say how long the motor has been knocking since i've been running my header by itself and its been loud as hell, but since i finally got my exhaust done i notice the knocking and it seems to only be knocking when its under medium/heavy acceleration and deceleration and sometimes when the motor is started and idles a lil. i was thinking the problem was that it hasn't gotten a tune up in some time so that was it was doing it, so i got some Royal Purple oil, K&N oil filter and G-Power NGK spark plugs and did the work and it's still knocking..

does cold make engine's knock? because its been pretty cold lately..

what could be done to stop it from knocking? well.. without replacing the entire motor...

Everything depends on what is knocking. If it's a bottom end knock, an engine rebuild is about due. If it's in the valvetrain, it might be a somewhat simpler fix. Hard to know without hearing it. Might want to run it by a mechanic and get an expert opinion.

A lean fuel condition can cause a knock.
You might also test your knock sensor.

I just pulled an engine from an SR-5 that I just bought, and found #1 piston had a broken skirt. The engine had a loud knock, and that is why the previous owner sold the car.
I pulled the other pistons, and found that all of them had cracks in the skirts. The cylinder bores are all worn beyond the limit, so that block will need to be oversized and have new pistons put in.
Car has 329,000 miles on it.
7A-FE swap in progress.

Wow, talk about your worst case scenario.
Have fun and enjoy the swap. A separate " How To" thread with pics would be nice.
