Part it or junk it?

I bought a little run around Corolla a few years back. The person who owned it before had run into something on the right front. It cosmetic and I was able to make it street legal without spending any money on it. I've had to replace a few things, alternator, battery, radiator and such. Overall the car has been damn good. It has evolved into a backup vehicle that I no longer use and now she just clicks when I try to turn it over. Sounded like the solenoid to me so I put a new starter on it. Apparently I may have a bad cable or ground issue. I don't use the car and don't want to put any more money into something that just sits on the driveway anyhow. Time for this one to go and since I'm starting nursing school next week, I could use the money!!

So....the question is.....is it worth the trouble of parting it out to people who need the parts or just call the junkyard, get $200 bucks and be done with it? Anyone tried to part one out before? Is this a vehicle that people need the parts for or is the after-market supplying everything everyone needs?

What do y'all think?

Take the 200 bucks and don't look back! You got every dollar's worth out of it.

If it has relatively new parts still in the car then part it.

You'll get more money that way over the long run.

Just do it bit by bit as your schedule allows.

If you may want to keep it as a spare vehicle, check the ground wire on the transmission which should be around the upper transmission mount. Just unbolt it and scrub it with a wire brush. I recently just had this problem and wasted a good amount of time trying to figure it out, buying and returning a starter. Whole time, damn transmission wasn't grounded because the bolt that held the wire on the trans was gunked up. The starter gets its ground from _________.

If you decide to not keep the car, at least if you get it to start and run, you'll be selling a running car

If you decide to sell (not junked), kbb.com for private retail value. You can sell it for whatever you think is reasonable based on the estimate value which I'm sure is more than $200. Personally, I hate to see cars given up on and ending up a squished can especially ones that runs.

If you don't sell, part out whatever parts people want then send the rest off to the junkyard so it be recycled into a microwave.

i second the motion.... you can get at least $400 if it at least starts. new cable is $20 or so, a new battery if you get a refurbished one from interstate battery is $36. i'm sure craigslist has comperable corolla's for at least $400. that's the beauty of free online classifieds. selling it complete you can let it become someone else's project or headache.

I think it depends on location, too. Some AE92's I see posted up on my area Craigslist are near $1000. Either way, better than $200.
