1991 corolla canister purge line

I have a 1991corolla wagon w/1.6,
and have been smelling gas from the engine compartment. no leaks. replaced gas filter and injector seals. yesterday i found that the purge line from the vapor canister was just hanging not connected(it is connected to the canister). i plugged it. no more gas smell today. but i can't see where it is supposed to connect to, that's why i plugged it. does anyone know where this line is supposed to connect to?

Thanks
Todd

Do you mean the big hose that comes out the bottom of the canister?
If so that hose goes into a hole in the fender to vent the vapor out of the engine bay.

I think on my canister there are two lines... one is a thin, dark blue line that connects to where the thermostat housing is (of all places). I'll have to have another look. God knows I can see all that area right now, with the airbox removed and all the other stuff I've been pulling out of the engine bay to troubleshoot my starting problem...

Thanks for your response, on my car there is 1 line that goes from the top of the throttle body to the part that i think you are talking about on the thermostat housing. There is no other place there to connect this line to, although that is where it looks like it belongs according to the diagram on the hood.

The purge line runs from the purge outlet on the canister to the temperature control valve at the thermostat housing. A second line runs from the temp valve to the top of the throttle body. These 2 lines are black plastic with a short length of rubber hose at the ends. The temp valve keeps the canister from purging the gas fumes until the engine has warmed up. It could be that one of the nipples has broken off the valve. They are made of plastic. Al.

Crap, I forgot about this. Here's a pic of my engine bay, my hand is under the sensor Alcan mentioned. I have a 1988 4A-FE, which is a little different than the 90-92 (or 91-92?) ones. So it might be a different setup. There are definitely two lines on the sensor, what you can't see too well is that one of them runs off into a metal tubing... junction thing. I don't know where it goes
