Australia AE92 4AFE starting issues

Hi pretty new here but I've come across something with my AE92 corolla sedan that really confuses the hell out of me. Despite my searching I've yet to find someone in the same situation as me.

I drove home from work this afternoon, relatively cool afternoon, went to get fuel and then went to start the car and nothing. Accessories turn on, everything electrical works fine but when I turn the key to ignition nothing happens. I mean literally nothing, engine doesnt crank, nothing happens at all. Moved the car away from the pump and checked the engine bay for anything odd, checked fuses and everything is A-ok. By this point I've waited about 10-15mins and I go to start the car again and Bam the bloody thing starts up and I drive home without a hitch.

What could start something like this? battery is fine, terminals are clean and rock solid. The only thing I can think of is perhaps the thermostat which idles high (1500) every time the temperature drops below normal eg. driving at 100km/h for a while and returning to idle. Sounds faulty, does the ae92's computer break the ignition circuit if it thinks its too hot? It's never stopped from overheating and the temp sensor never goes above normal even in hard driving situations.

Any help would be appreciated guys!

The starter solenoid contacts have worn down giving the intermittent no starts. Very common Toy problem. Don't replace the starter just replace the contacts. Most Toy dealer parts departments stock the replacements. Here is a general link (Nippondenso starter which is found on many makes of cars) on how to do the work. Click on pics in the link to enlarge.

I second the notion of checking the starter contacts. I had to replace my contacts (which I ordered from the site that 90 GP posted) about a year ago.

I'd hate to think you had the same problem I recently did with corroded wires... but then my wagon didn't start back up again, it was just 'finished.'

Cheers for your help and that link 90GP! Hopefully this will fix the problem I'm experiencing. From memory this same thing happened about 6 months ago. So not very often but it's only going to get worse considering its daily use!

Thanks guys!
