Welcome to the forum.

Well Toyota makes the best cars in the world! The original engine will last at least 500,000 Km's if maintained properly. My car has 370,000 Km's and still my reliable car. Drove from San Francisco to Louisiana (3200 Km's) in 3 days without a single trouble.

About tires. the stock tire for the corolla is 175 70 R 13. This means the thread surface is 175 mm wide. And 70% of this 175 mm is the height from the lip of the tire to the surface of the threads. Finally, the 13 is the rim diameter in inches. I use 185/70R13 and 195/60R13 tires

Stay with the 4afe.
When you replace oil and air filters, try to stay with TOYOTA filters. the price of toyota filters are decently priced. If you have a bad air filter that fill pass dirt to the engine and damage the internal components. Also when you install the air filter, make sure it seats perfectly with the air filter box. Some mechanics won't do it right.

Do you have an automatic or manual transmission (gear box)?

I will change the engine oil + filter, air filter, gear oil.

Most importantly, check whether the timing belt is replaced within last 100,000 Km's. You should be able to find a sticker with Km's written some where in the engine bay or on the plastic cover towards the belts. You can also check with the previous owner about this. the timing belt is inside the plastic cover right by the belts.

Hope this helps a bit.

Welcome!

Mmm, yes, there's a special version of the Corolla called AE92, but it's a coupe, with important differences with the sedan, do you drive a 4-door or a 2-door Corolla?

Pros: Fuel economy, reliability, interior space

Cons: Perhaps some people think of the Corolla as a very boring car.

When it comes to tires... if you want larger rims, try to keep the overall tire diameter the same. If you want a wider tire, try to add no more than 20 mm, because the comfort and fuel consumption will be affected negatively.

Places, places... you can ask at any auto parts store, they must know lots of options!

You're welcome, hope the info will be useful Yes, the AE92 name is reserved for the coupé. The DX or LX letters indicate the trim level. You know, the DX is the basic one, and the LX comes with power windows, power locks and mirrors... you know, more equipment.

Yeah, the sedan is called just Corolla :P The LX, DX thing only make difference in equipment, the performance is the same.

I have a 1991 Geo Prizm, it's actually a rebadged Corolla, I call it a clone.

Mmm, if you want to improve the looks and performance of your car, you should start with the basic things, it depends on your budget. Lowering the suspension 1 or 2 inches for example, and adding a cold air intake, iridium spark plugs and high performance spark plug wires will make it gain something between 5-10 horsepower.

I havent done anything to my car, so I cant give you a deeper opinion, let's wait for someone who is more experienced in the topic

I'm looking into buying an intake cold air intake from the bran wepon R I don't know if that's good lol. And are cold air intakes usually long or are some short ? Geo Prizm is 100% Toyota Sprinter. It is different from a corolla if you look at the body, but everything else is identical to corolla.

I too have a 92 prizm and I took off all prizm badges and put sprinter badges all around.... I once pulled over by a cop in Tonopah Nevada for that reason!!! crazy....

Don't go with cold air intakes. You have to use oil in those and that oil will make a mess inside the air filter. You know toyota designed the cars at its best. So don't change anything in the engine/transmission. I still have stock all around. 32 PSI and get 15 to 16.5 Km per liter at 110 Kmph (highway) and about 11 - 12 Km per liter in the city.

I have very similar figures for my Prizm, but your consumption in the city seems to be lower. Do you have a manual transmission? That, or your city has really synchronized traffic lights

Sprinter huh ? That's sick lol so you think I should go with a short ram ? Or can you find something for me ? Or suggest the best kind and thanks man I was really debating if I should try to swap it. So my car is just a corolla ? Nothing special ?

I also own a toyota 4runner (hilux surf in UK and rest of the world). I know people there is going back to stock air filter after trying the cold air intake. think for a minute... if that add horse power, toyota would do it before send it to the market.

Things to do to your car: Try to stay with Toyota products.

New engine oil + filter
Air filter
fuel filter
Injector cleaner (STP or a good brand) : use the cleaner when you are doing long trips. I usually use a 1 bottle for about 1/4 tank (high concentration).
30 PSI all around.
Check the timing belt, if needed replace it. (if you have a manual and tools it is a very easy job)
Check the quality of the Drive belts specially the one runs through the alternator. This belt runs through the water pump. If it breaks it will stop pumping the water all around and boil the car!

Gear box oil change

Use the car everyday. See how it treats you. Once you feel it is the car want.... thinkin of putting wider tires like 195/60R13 or 205/60R13. This will give good traction and control. Replace all the brake pads shoes with toyota products. (Dont use the ceramic stuff or any new material as they all are crap)

Later, take off the seats and remove the floor carpet and wash it. Do a detail inside. May be a tint.
I'll get pics of my car soon. I dont know how to post pictures on this site.

I deal with corolla parts on ebay. There are lots of junk yards around my town. I don't know how much to ship to UK, but it is not that bad either. I have shipped parts to Europe and shipping charges are pretty decent.
