USA AE92 AWD conversion - celica gt-4 parts

Hello, and mind you all this is my first post, but it seams that all the AWD All-TRAC conversions for the corolla AE92 show swapping in parts from the wagon version, and this has anvil idly fought a lot of heat from the forum. Vehicle is. AE92 Corolla 1992 FWD 4A-FE (close to its last leg)

I'm asking if using the 94-97 Celica GT-4 Japan spec rear drive assembly with a 3sgte ST215 tranny make the build any easier.

To compensate for some of the build, I was including thoughts of the rear knuckle assembly put in place from same Celica model year, and a custom build strut tower spacer for the rear to accommodate the drive shaft without having to do much chopping and welding.

Here's a link for reference in the rear assembly I speak of.

I would love to hear from the gods of the forum.

Well, it certainly won't make your build any easier.
But it has been done before and with enough perseverance, money, knowledge and time you can do it to your car as well. But beware that a lot of custom work is involved with this build!

A German guy got the entire running gear and 3S-GTE engine from a ST205 Celica GT-4 into his Corolla AE92. That was very neatly and cleanly done!

Well I wonder how this could work out for me. That being that the model corolla I own is the north American sedan version. No available sport hatchback version here so I don't know the possible changes or differences in the rear suspension.

Do you have a link to that conversion you mentioned Blof-fan?
Can't seam to find it.

Other than that, I do have perseverence, some money, it's the knowledge I come here for.

Well, aside that your sedan has a extra set of doors, the basic chassis is the same as the hatchback version.

A do have a link, but it is for a German forum (I don't know how your German is?) and a lot of the earlier pictures don't work anymore
(which is a shame because that was the really interesting part with a lot of the modifications they had to do to make everything fit)

http://board.toyota-forum.de/showthr...highlight=AE92

There are some very knowledgable people on this forum. But not many people have do something this extensive.
So with all possible respect to everybody on this forum, I don't think you will get the detailed info you will seek during the conversion here.
I think you should look for someone who has done something like this before.
Some consider this to be the holy grail for AE92 modifications, and there are not a lot of people who have done it...

I know of 3 Corolla's that have undergone a similair build.
The German one, a guy in Russia has build a 4WD AE92 but not as clean as the German build and years ago someone in England did it, but I don't know much of the details of that build.
There might be more, but they didn't go public with it then

Here are some pictures of the Russian build:

This guy used a Corolla 4WD running gear and still uses the original 4A-FE engine.

Thank you for those pics from the German Build, gives me an idea for how the framework and additions should be done.

As for the Russian Build, apparently the pics didn't seam to load.

Either way, you have juts allowed me to steady my conviction for this build! Blof-fan!!!

Seeing as to how the $$$ for this build will go mostly into the Engine and the rear assembly due to family owning a welding shop and all kinds of spare material too boot. Plus an over experienced welder if i say so myself. (not me)

If there's any more information i would gladly hear it.

Well, apart from the relocation of suspention mounting points you need to consider a few other problem area's:

-The fueltank needs to go elsewhere since that space will be taken by the propshaft/rear diff
-The exhaust will need re-routing since there will be a propshaft there it used to be.
-There might be some clearance issues with the front stabilizer bar (unconfirmed)

Question

How different are the bolt hole spacing from the stock size shocks compared to the Celica's Knuckle assembly?

Both front and back, hoping none to not much that will allow for some simple mods/swaps for a full knuckle in the front and rear without having to buy new shocks, just got them replaced.( not until i save enough $$$ for some coil-overs ) As well as using same lower control arm.

Plus the whole front and rear Knuckle swaps to Celica would definitely increase my stopping power.
