Gen1 Code 6 RPM Signal

Hello all,

Newb here, (not new to Toyotas though, I've got a 86Runner and a 97 LC)

My father-in-law recently bought an 85 EFI 4Runner, all stock 287kmi on the chassis, ~80kmi on the rebuild. It died out on him last week and we've been trying to get it going again. First it was throwing codes 6,7 & 11. Replaced theTPS and ECU, (TPS was gummed up) from an 86 parts truck we have and that cleared 7&11.
We then replaced the signal igniter in the distributor, distributor cap, rotor, coil and battery. Still getting the same thing, it sounds like it's about to start then just dies. We clear the code 6 - RPM Signal, but after a few retries it comes back. We verified we are getting spark to the spark plugs and verifed the coil is working as well. The next step we were going to try is to replace the entire distributor. We also swapped out the EFI relay under the dash.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
