I've owned a 1991 celica for over 4 years now and other then heavy rust (I live on an island off the east coast of canada) and related rusted parts (brake lines, P/S lines, etc) I've really only had to replace the struts/mounts and the brakes, anything else was rust-related.
The engine and gearbox are, thus far, undestructable. If this were any other manufacturer, it would have been dead by now. There is 255,000 KM on this car and is still starts on the first 1/4 turn of the starting motor, purrs at 1000RPM and gears up and down like a 15 year old car should.
