btw I say search this, since there's like 50 threads with this exact topic floating around, one got pretty long has some details in it
You have a very good point there freakinbox. The only problem with it though is that if you don't put in the exact title in the search box, you could be reading 50 threads before finding the answer you are looking for.
It would be really helpfull if someone who knows which thread has the necessary information, or even has a slight idea, just include the link so the person looking doesn't have to spend days searching.
So. Anybody remember which of the many threads best addresses this topic? I really don't want to read them all

Modification: Changing something to what you thought it should have been from the start!
Hey man, i speak from experience when i say, spend the extra $, and buy the Blacktop. It's common sence when you think about it. Once your not going to go boost "which i dought, if your considering the ST because of price difference" you should go with the higher compression, MAP sensor Blacktop. The AFM alone on the Silvertop is "to me" a big dissapointment. Why in the world!!! would toyota make individual throttles on an engine, if they cannot be left open....
End result, Higher compression, better head design, lighter internals (that i've seen take 6psi) Lighter flywheel, and 6fwd box. Even if you dont get the 6fwd box you can use the 5fwd and still be better off than a Silvertop.

Because filter requirements are lot easier to deal with, you have one stock panel, instead of some whacky idea. Leaving them totally open is very stupid and will lead to premature engine wear. We use socks on ITB'd race cars, because you aint gonna win a race if you have a stone fly in and break your engine.
also the AFM isnt a restriction like people think and I think toyota thought something else when they designed the ITB's rather than having kids run open ITB's.
With the price difference of ST and BT atleast over here, I could get wisecos and lightweight connecting rods and alot of other nice stuff to the silvertop... :P
blah.. those are biased comments. one of the reason toyota change to MAP is coz it's cheaper to produce. it also makes me laugh when people talk about the AFM being a restriction. wow. to prove my point a guy from Manila opened up his ST and run MAP BT ECU removed the AFM and dynoed the car, the only difference is the power band is slightly different but no improvement on how agressive the map is. also his fuel mileage sucked, so he went back to his initial/original set-up.

It depends, what is the price difference? Over here BT's are more than twice the price so really not worth it. But it really depends. BT's do make more power, 5-10 kw @ the wheels from what I've seen.

It is not a wacky idea to have your throttle body's open, they perform much better that way, and its "wacky" that you even said something like that, i never said to leave them open without filters, thats just stupid.
I quote Flash
"also (the AFM isnt a restriction like people think and I think toyota thought something else) when they designed the ITB's rather than having kids run open ITB's."
Thats alot of "thinking", more like..guessing...kid.
Does anyone on this topic even own a 20V?? A blacktop 20v? I was once using the silvertop which is the ONLY reason I can discriminate it. I'm not reading from a book or a webpage, I talk from experience.
Micro...You say you laugh at me when I say the AFM is a restriction? Well im glad, because I laugh at you for believeing that it is not. And I so wish you lived in my country so I can prove to you on a 1/4 mile or highway or track what your saying is a bunch of bullshit.
People i wish not to argue, only to better one another, but ignorance is a hell of a thing.
