From Solara back to 5 speed Corolla?

I have a beautiful 2000 Solara XLE automatic. Whenever I go to Toyota dealerships and test drive other Toyotas and mention I'm considering going back to a 5 speed Corolla, they have to contain a slight disbelief. It's as if they can't quite imagine someone going from a luxurious Solara (at least the Solara is luxurious to me) to the smaller, manual Corolla.

If I were rich or had a larger garage, I'd keep my Solara because of its classy, smooth ride. I'd buy a 2009 Corolla manual for its fun and sporty ride. I am not rich and don't have a larger garage. So - Fun vs. smooth. Classy vs. sporty. It's quite a fence I'm on. Any input? Advice? Thoughts?

Don't worry about what they think. People downsize all the time whether it's to get something smaller or get lower payments, etc. I'm sure more and more people will be doing what you are doing right now as gas prices go up. It looks like Toyota hit a huge homerun with the all new Corolla. I am looking at getting either the Corolla Standard or LE. I don't want or need any bells and whistles.
