looking for a Toyota for my grand daughter heading off to college,, want to keep the cost in the low $4k area,, I see many with the miles in the 100K + and wonder what all repairs would be needed to keep it going for a few years with that much mileage,,

when does the timing belt and water pump and anything else need changed as recommended by Toyota,,

appreciate any areas of concern you may recommend that I be on the look out for when viewing a prospect purchase,,

Getting a Corolla is good choice! My mom and sisters abuse the crap out of poor old green 95 Corolla and it just keeps on running.

If your decided on picking one up. If you can Do-it-yourself:

1.) Replacing the Water-Pump
2.) Replacing all belts
3.) New Tires
4.) Oil Change
5.) Coolant
6.) Spark Plugs & wires
7.) Transmission fluid
8.) Air filter
9.) New wipers

The 1 & 2 are a hassle and the rest are basically common-sense. Just do as much maintenance as you can before sending your grand-daughter and use-car off too college. THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO HER COLLEGE AND FIX THE CAR...(Trust ME, that is NOT FUN)
