Synthetic oil is great for any style of driving, and it also provides ultimate protection. Not try to sound like a sales man, but I personally use synthetic oil and follows the extended drain interval. Sometimes using synthetic oil will save you more time and money because you do not have to change at every 3k miles. If you change your oil at every 3k miles, I personally would just use conventional motor oil.
