Question why are there so many salvaged scions??

alrite, here's my story:
i had a 96 camry, but it got totalled. my parents "borrowed" my money and bought an 04 sienna, and i've been driving it for about 2 years. i'm 20 y/o so it's def NOT my style. they have paid me back plus a lil more and now i have about 10-13k to spend on a car. i want a compact sedan or coupe. i was leaning towards bmw 3 series, acura tsx or audi a4, but with my budget and the crappy mpg that those cars get i'm leaning towards a TC.

Now the question:
after searching on autotrader.com for the tc, almost all the tcs on there are salvaged. I know the expression "you get what you pay for" and obviously there won't be as many salvaged tcs if my budget was a lil higher. But i'm curious as to why there are so many? would someone hitting you only on the drivers side door or something really salvage your car(as many claimed)? what are your thoughts on salvaged tcs? i really like the idea of cheaper insurance..lol

thanx for any input and sorry, cuz i know this is long as hell...
