Do you have the 1979-1983 Corolla TE72 (also knownas the T-18 in Australia).
That is the square shaped one before the AE86.
Eveyrbody tries to make InitialD AE86 clones, so something a bit more unsual could be good.

You can put a 1800cc twincam turbo 3T-GTE (160HP) into the TE72 with no trouble,

Or get a crossmember from an AE70, bolt it into the TE72 and bolt a 20 valve 4A-GE or supercharged 4A-GZE onto that.
Beware that in east-west 4A engines the distributor will hit the firewall when installed as north-south, so get the same engines that fit the AE86 or do firewall surgery.

The turbo 3T-GTE can also fit other Toyotas that had the 2T or 3T engines.
Eg. TE21/27/35/37/47 Corolla, TA22/23/28/40/63 Celica.
