Just buy the 7m-gte engine

You can get a 7m-gte engine for right around 1000 dollars guaranteed to have less than 40,000 miles on it. I was going to do the exact same thing when I came back from Iraq the first time. But gophers totalled my car be eating all the wiring. Now you guys gotta remember, the difference between the 7m-ge and 7m-gte isnt that the gte has turbos. It actually does have strengthed internals. So whereas the gte block could safely handle 300 hp, the 7m-ge block could not. So even if you wanted to throw a turbo kit on it, you would only be able to go so far before you had to change out the crank, pistons and rods.

So just get the 7m-gte and throw it in. Your axles and driveshaft should be fine, youll have to replace the clutch, your transmission might be fine. Youll definately have to get a performance radiator. Plus just because a car uses the same engine doesnt mean it uses the same ecu. I tried to buy a turbo kit for my 03 matrix when a turbo kit came out for 03 celica gt-s' but I didnt take it because they said that while it works for the celica, it doesnt work with the matrix electronics.
