Going along with what others said, sports cars are not profitable, well most of them...the Celica, MR2 Spyder were great sellers at first, but then sales declined and Toyota felt it should pull the plug. Remember Toyota is first and foremost a BUISNESS! They are in it for the money, and if a product doesn't net that or at least good enough to justify the production costs, its axed. Not to say image doesn't play a part in sales but that can go only so far...Also I think Scion has somewhat of a part in this, back in 03 to 04 it was just starting and a big deal. Then in 04 when it went nation wide it caught on like wild fire so that kind of eclipses the Celica and MR2, I'm not saying Scions are sports cars but the point is they were/are "youthfull" spunky cars with great value, not to say the Celica and MR2 was either but they didn't come down in bargin pricing like the Scions. But also the hype kind of killed the Celica and MR2, just my observation, obviously there were other factors involved.
Since I mentioned Scion obviously I'm just talking about the U.S.
