Crankshaft Pulley Holder

I am trying to change the timing belt on a 1990 celica 1.6L, 4S-FE engine.

Anyone have suggestions on holding the Crankshaft Pulley besides purchasing the Toyota Specialty Tool (which I have heard costs a couple hundred dollars)?
Anyone know of a universal tool to hold the pulley(such as a Schley tool)?

I tried the method in the Haynes manual where a couple of screwdrivers are used and the only thing I got out of that were scraped knuckles......

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Lou
