1990 ES250 engine removal

I am trying to R/R the engine in my daughters 90 ES250. I have it striped down to the
short block and all bolts removed. I would REALLY like not to have to remove the transaxle.

I cannot seem to get the engine and tranny to separate 1/2 inch maybe. (Automatic). what am I missing..
Have I missed something about unbolting the torque converter??? and if so what? and how do I get to it.
I got a Great Deal on a reman short block and this could work out to be a Sweet job if I was not such a idiot.
Any help ....Please.
T.
