My gf's sister has a 2013 Corolla LE and when she bought it, it was $250 for reverse sensors and/or $600 for an aftermarket backup camera which would use a rear view mirror monitor (at that price, I would hope it's a fancy Gentex brand mirror but who knows) - so I told her to just get the sensors, especially since the camera would not be viewable on her factory touchscreen.

Well.. after installing a reverse camera on my own car recently, and my gf getting a new 2015 Camry with a reverse camera, my gf's sister started asking if I could put one in her Corolla but it had to use the factory screen.

This kit: [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Backup-Camera-Camry-Corolla/dp/B00IW8B29K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427381766&sr=8-1&keywords=toyota+reverse+camera[/ame] was excellent. A little expensive for just the camera and a simple harness, but it works with the factory screen perfectly. You shift into reverse, the camera comes up, shift out of reverse, and the regular audio screen comes up.

I searched a bit but didn't see anyone mention this kit specifically. It has the replacement wiring harness and a 6V camera. Pretty much all the popular aftermarket cameras are 12V which may not work well, if at all. The problem with using a 12V camera and powering it from the reverse lights is that the head unit doesn't "see" the camera (since it doesn't get power unless it's in reverse) so it doesn't know it's there. With the 6V camera getting power directly from the head unit, it can see the camera is there and it works every single time and without much lag.

All in all, a great upgrade if you have a Corolla with a factory touch screen. I think if you have navigation there's a separate kit. Installation was pretty easy, but you need to be comfortable with taking the trim apart on your car and also removing the radio. You also need to drill a hole and mount the camera in the chrome trim on the trunk.

I never really saw the need for a reverse camera and it most definitely does NOT replace physically turning your head back and using your mirrors. It's just an aid. However, it's perfect for parallel parking and most importantly, lets you see exactly what is behind your car.. cars these days have very high backs. In the afternoon time all the little kids are running around in front of the driveways so with a camera, you have that extra level of safety. A car can be repaired if you scratch it, a kid cannot be replaced. After having a reverse camera now (I've installed it in four cars so far) - I would not want to go without it. However, I am not made of money so if the car doesn't come with it, I need to find a way to install it myself.

My gf's sister is THRILLED with her new reverse camera. That was pretty much the one regret she had with her 2013 compared to the 2014 which had the reverse camera standard. Rims, LED headlights, CVT, etc. all don't mean anything to her. So, she's very happy with her 2013. She's also planning on moving away and won't be taking her car, so she's going to pay it off and leave it with us - fine with me, and now it has a reverse camera!

It looks like a factory camera. I'm attaching a picture, the same one I posted on Amazon. The test shot is pointed at the roof because I hadn't secured everything yet but wanted to test it.

Thank you for this. Very helpful, as I am looking into doing this.

I have 2012 Corolla S with the Entune/Navigation unit. Do you or anyone have any idea if it will work with my unit? Or, are there any that will work this easily with my unit?

Thanks, and thanks for all the advice and guidance this site has already given me.

Order the back up camera yesterday. I saw your review on amazon as well.

I really hope this works with my factory navi touch screen. It'll be awesome.

Where do you guys get your Toyota OEM headunits? I have a 13 corolla and want to replace the OEM headunit with a Toyota etune (touch screen) but the dealer is quoting me $2500 ! I know the LE model came with the touch version and but my CE has the older 'button' radio... But 2500 is insane and $7000 for the navigation system?

I would also then order a backup camera and install myself if I can get the right headunit.

I want to stick with OEM so after market is out but these prices are nuts.

So today I dropped my car off at a car audio installation store. They installed my camera, however the last wire is missing. I cannot believe I ordered the kit and a wire is missing from it preventing the job to be completed. So upset that it did not get done today..

I left my car there overnight and the guy assured me that he will have it done tomorrow. I am not sure which wire it is, but it is the wire that you plug into the back of the radio for the image to appear. I hope he can find one from somewhere so I can get my car back!

Fingers crossed that my camera is good to go tomorrow. He installed the physical camera to the back and has done the rest of the job, about 90% of the job is complete and just that one wire is needed.

My camera finally works now...

Except for the fact that the installer placed the camera in the middle and the camera faces down when I put the car in reverse. I need to place the camera on the side so it can face straight..

This is turning into a drag. I will provide some pictures later today. Nonetheless, even with the installation right now I can see how close I am to the persons bumper.

This is why you need to do these thing yourself. ICE installation is easy, but can be a little time consuming. In your case you paying someone to do it right and now it's wasting your time as well. That sucks man.
Go back to the installer they should remount it for free. if its not positioned correctly
I'm surprised the camera doesn't have some kind of adjustment.
Good luck.

Wow, after a week of having the camera, suddenly on Saturday on my way to work, my camera did not work anymore. The screen went blank and when I shifted in reverse and out, the screen did not even change. It stayed in the aux display. I was so disappointed. After I came out of work, I changed the gear and the camera was suddenly working again. Between today and Saturday, the camera sometimes work and other times doesn't. At first I thought maybe a wire was loose but now I don't even know what the problem is. I was thinking about bringing it back to the shop that installed the camera for me but they would have to take the whole thing apart and take a look at it once again. I've been so busy with school and work that I don't even have the time. I will go sometime during this week however.

This is turning into a nightmare, exactly what I was afraid of happening, happened. Sigh..

Could be the cold temp. Electronics doesn't like too cold or too hot.
If unit is all right and working, checking faults is quite easy for installer that knows what he's doing. Even complete removal of unit to find the fault.

The camera is good to go now :)

They took apart the radio and they found that all wires are in tact. What I figured out in the mean time is, when I turn the car on to wait for a minute before shifting the gear. If I shift to reverse right after I turn the car on, more than likely the camera won't work. Hopefully it stays that way as I am very happy with the camera and it makes backing up so much easier.

Just wanted to post an update, my mom bought a 2013 Corolla and I also put in one of these cameras. It started to get foggy after a few months, and the seller immediately sent me a replacement. It was a pain to have to remove the old one and put the new one in so soon, but I can't really complain. The new camera is clearer than the original one ever was and no problems so far. The first backup camera on the other 2013 Corolla is still good as new. I like everything as close to stock as possible, so this is ideal for what I wanted.. even if they aren't my cars :)
