The styling of the new Corolla is growing on me. This might be my next purchase in the coming months. I don't really like the Mazda 3, inside and out. There are other things that I dislike including the stiff ride and uncomfortable seats. The Ford Focus does not interest me, neither does the Sentra, or the Elantra. The Elantra does seem like a smart buy.
Then there is the Civic. The interior and dash totally turns me off, and I've grown to dislike that exterior.
In this class the Corolla would be my first choice, followed by the Elantra.
I'm glad you think it's tasteful... because that's probably the ONLY reason why I chose an S version---because of the black interior! Haha! Well, I like the body spoilers, too! And the color! It's an awesome car! Except that shifting to first gear feels kinda weird.

Nice. Why does shifting into first feel weird? Also, you should not be shifting into first unless you are under 10 mph, and even then, it is a good idea to at least rev match.

Reason: forgot something
Don't worry, I know how to drive stick... I've been driving stick for 10 years!
The weirdness is with how the gear stick goes into 1st (not the engine or the gears themselves). It's the feeling of when you haven't really put it into gear the right way. It's like I put it half way instead of all the way. Maybe it has a short-shift? I have no idea since I've never driven a car with a short shift before.
