I used to have a 2004 Corolla S that I traded in for the XRS and the steering feel of the S was floaty and kind of numb, but still did an adequate job at relaying information about the road to the driver.

I know what you were comparing, and I agree that the older XRS probably has nicer road feel. I was just saying that the non-XRS Gen 10 is quite a bit worse than the XRS Gen 10 (even though it has less than your Gen 9 XRS). I myself am used to the steering in my AE86 and my roommate's AW11 (no power steering), so going to the Gen 10 XRS was quite the change for myself, but I find I quite enjoy it for every day.
I've said it before, but I'll echo the sentiment one more time, the new XRS has a much more everyday around-town feel to it than the Gen 9, and I think that was Toyota's goal, and I love it because of it. It's what I wanted in a new car. There are different purposes for different cars, and it seems the end goal of the Gen 9 XRS versus the Gen 10 was quite different. The Gen 10 is more refined, etc.
