You need to provide way more information regarding the vehicle configuration. Is it auto or manual? Does it come with or without the moonroof? What Province are you in - since taxes vary.
Checkout the Toyota.ca website and go to Price your Toyota. Compare your exact config to what the the MSRP cost. If they're the same (or higher)...then you can do better on price.
Just be aware - "typical" industry dealer margins on a car is 7-10%. Cut that % in half (to account for dealer's costs & profit) and you have a decent point to negotiate to.
Sorry rolla, you are correct in my lack of detail.
We live in Richmond Hill, outside of Toronto. Because the wife is driving it too(no stick experience) and with the lack of option packages on the S we are looking at the only option of Automatic, NO moonroof package.
Simple and sweet.
From my calculations the dealer took of $500 on the MSRP from the Toyota site. But it did then add $295 admin fee and $99 registration.
Any of your feedback is appreciated.

Considering typical dealer profit margins at 7-10%, I think you can do better and probably get $1000 off MSRP. That leaves the dealer with about $1000 profit. Since it's a new vehicle, it's tough to say how it's selling right now and if the dealers are hungry enough to vary much off MSRP. If you were in BC, seems they don't vary much off MSRP (not sure why).
As for that BS admin fee - ask them if they're charging the full $1100 Freight/PDI too? If so, then the "admin fee" should already have been built into that fee. Ask them to breakdown and justify the costs - if they can't then you have a good arguement to have it removed.
I hate dealers who use this nickle and dime approach to selling.
I just bought my 09 Corolla S yesterday...here's the breakdown I got:
Bought it in Ottawa...
09 Corolla S Automatic - Blue
with
Moonroof package and got them to throw in: Hood deflector, Body Side Mouldings and Rear Bumper Protector....total cost after taxes and all that fun delivery stuff: $25,384.56
By the rough breakdown we took before we walked, freight was $929 then they added the $295 admin. I gather the $1100 is about right then in this case. No options thrown in. Although they did hint at some discount on a rustproofing package to close the deal. The rear trunk mat looks nice.
I'm not so sure about dealer rustproofing One it is way overpriced(although they do include yearly checks and topping up). And i guess they may be correct on the 2nd point in yearly oil spray does cost $120 per year. But overall i think Krown does a better job(less the fact they do some driling for access, hate that).

Funny. I just posted a thread about the same subject :

Frenzied - I debated the rustproofing as well and at my dealership it was $699 for 10 years of coverage (check ups every 2 years). I didn't go with it because of a few reasons;
First, after lots of reading on the web, it would appear that cars these days are not going to rust in the first 5 years of ownership - even with limited care for the vehicle. So, if you plan to sell or trade in the car in 5 years, it's not worth it.
Second, in the winter, if you get the car washed regularly (1-2x per month) there is an even lower chance of the car rusting.
Finally, I read some nasty stories of the "rubber" spray that the dealer coats the bottom of the car with, cracking after the 10 year warranty and then water getting up through the cracks and rusting out parts of the car.
I just decided that I would opt out of the rustproofing and then go to Krown in about 4 or 5 years time and start treatment then. In the meantime, I try and clean the car every 3 weeks or so (even just a water spray underneath with the garden hose to dislodge the salt).

I am not sure if this helps, but before I bought my Corolla S, I used CarCostCanada.com to get the invoice price on my car. The "Product Advisor" at the Toyota dealership had the exact same numbers (he told me the invoice price and it was actually $200 less than CarCostCanada's numbers - I can only assume it was accurate).
The difference between the MRSP and Invoice was about 7.5% - it goes up if you start adding options (Auto, Moonroof, etc), but this should give you a sense of how much it costs the dealer.
I used the same Symtech product on the Chevy which I am going to replace with Corolla. Irionically, it has the floor rusted thru, probaby as the theory behind undercoating goes. I'm shy of the drilling at Krown, but it may be the way to go from what I am reading. Plenty of happy customers with Krown.
As for the pricing, we used another car costing service APA at www.apa.ca to give us the breakdown on invoice cost, admin fees, etc. but they also price and give you a dealership that will sell at a deal(their price saves roughly $700, essentially negotiating for you) knocking some profit and admin fees to save you.
From what I am hearing, an "S", in Automatic without any options thereafter at just under $24k is a good price. I'll try get them to throw in the rear trunk tray and car mats to close.
For a Corolla S w/automatic and bodyside mouldings I paid $23,100 out the door. Had a 07 Honda Civic Coupe which my daughter totalled (she was ok). The insurance company gave me $24,800 for it so I came out ahead.
I gotta commend you Canadians for helping each other out on the pricing numbers. I'm about 6-8 months out on looking at buying a Corolla S (or Mazda 3) and have yet to see what people on this side of the border are paying. I'm thinking right now for an S, 5 spd manual, sport package (Option C or D-it keeps changing), no moon roof, cloth around $18k (US) - In 6 months, after the newness wears off and with more availability, I'm hoping to be at $17k. What's nice is we have two Honda's and a Tundra for just me and the wife. I will walk if the deal ain't right! C'mon American's post those prices! Take a cue from the Canadians. Keep me from gettin out the calculator.

Whatever happened to their One rate pricing huh, with no haggling?
Anyways, I'm in BC and as someone as previously stated, they don't like to move on MSRP here. I was offered $300 off MSRP which is really only off 1%, and this is coming directly from sales manager making a big deal about it.
Its kind of disheartening to hear about the better discounts being had over in the east. Anyone purchase a corolla in the west with deeper discounts? I'd love to have a talk with your salesman.
