Hi all ... Congrats to all of you who got your new 09 Corolla's. I just put money down on a 09 LE Corolla, with factory Audio system. The wife wants a in dash Navigation system, and I think I am going to go with the Kenwood DNX7100. I searched the forums and found that the 9th gen (03 to 09) corollas DID NOT have a double DIN slot on the dash. There is NO information about the 10th Gen models. Even my dealer has no idea.
Does anyone who owns a 09 Corolla have an idea if the slot is a single DIN or Double DIN??? I would really like to get a in dash system rather than the flip out motorized version.
It's a double-DIN, however you'll need some sort of an adapter plate (like the Corollas with factory Nav have). You should be able to order one from your local dealer. I don't know if there are any aftermarket options available yet.
Thanks for your reply. Best buy told me that although the slot may be a double DIN opening, the space at the back is curved, and not a perfect rectangle. Does that make sense? I am not sure that is entirely true. If DIN measurements are ISO standards, and Corollas are available with Nav system option, any aftermarket nav system meeting specs should fit. If my dealer is able to give me the plate, i think installing a Kenwood should be possible. What are your thoughts.
If i install the nav system, will all the volume and other controls be thro the nav touch screen? How does that work?
I asked the same question under the audio, video and security forum, but got no response, so I decided to do some research on the subject. I am too looking to put a double DIN unit in my Corolla S.
I found out a few things. According to CrutchfieldCanada.com, the 2009 Corolla will only fit a Single DIN at this point. The sales rep said they have examined the area behind the stock stereo and there is only room for a single DIN - probably because of the "curve" the Best Buy team told you about.
However, as Jeff pointed out, this curve may be circumvented by an adapter plate. Crutchfield said that no one is currently making this adapter, however one should be available in a few months, once more people purchase the car. The best places to check for the adapter would be at Crutchfield, Scosche or Metra.
And yes, once you install the DNX7100, all your controls will be on the screen. The DNX7100 has a "main" screen which lets you select which function you wish to control (NAV/CD/DVD,etc) and once you select the source there are buttons on the unit to increase/decrease the volume. You can also get an adapter to allow your steering wheel controls to continue to function with the new Kenwood system.
This is all assuming the Canadian Corollas are built the same as the US ones.
Thanks for the reply!! So let me ask this... why is it that the Solara Nav system fits in the Corolla 09? That is a double DIN as well... plus there are 09 corollas available with factory installed nav systems (solara models). My dealer offered to put a nav system in my car for 2300 USD plus tax which i thought was outrageous. In the end he offered to give me the number of a custom body shop they have used in the past when i pick up the car tomorrow.
Ill post some more info on the radio unit, its removal and the internal dimensions of the space once i get to speak to this installer!!!
Yea, I was going to install an after market double din too but when I saw that "curve" from the factory stereo, I didn't think it would look right with non-OEM decks. I would recommend waiting until more pics or samples of our beloved 09 Corollas are released.

Reason: typo
Thanks toxicpenguin. I look forward to hearing how your install went. Does this dash kit allow for any double din stereo install? Did you get the Kenwood DNX7100 installed?
BTW you should look into the Pioneer AVIC-F90BT because it looks to be the best unit out there when it comes out in June and pretty affordable at $1200. Much less than the $2300 for the unit offered by the dealer.

[After reading pre reviews on the AVIC-F90BT, I decided against getting the Kenwood. I am going to wait for it to release and get the Pioneer.
I tried the Scosche website and they do not have the bezel on sale just yet. I even emailed their customer support to get ETA. However i am not in so much of a hurry now that i decided to get the Pioneer which releases in June
I think i will get the unit installed at best buy, because of the Double DIN issue. I dont want to mess around with it. I have not decided which speakers to get for the car though. Currently I have the stock system (non JBL) which might mean i need to get an amplifier.
