Toronto: Corolla LE - Price (CAD) you paid for? Also what is the invoice cost?

Hi,

I am new to this forum so I hope i'm posting in the right section.

We are looking to get a new 2009 Corolla LE and would like to know what everybody paid for their car out the door.

Only people residing in Ontario please because US prices are different.

********************

Thinking of the Corolla LE automatic and possibly moon roof option.

the moonroof is nice but the 8 way power adjustable seating is pretty important too.

I'm thinking we can negotiate for the moonroof package since it is a 1500 dollar option. Maybe can bargain it down to 1K?

not sure how much off MSRP we can get from the LE model itself.

I don't want them to include the 500 dollar graduate student option as a method of discount since that can be done through toyota canada themselves.

much thx. for help.

The moonroof is nice. It's one-touch operation (first time in a Corolla) and it's basically the same one as the Camry (even stops 9cm from the full open to minimise wind noise lol).

According to carcostcanada.com the invoice price for the Corolla LE with moonroof package including freight is $20,974 before taxes. The cost of the moonroof to dealer specifically is listed at $1,353.

$1,353 for the moonroof?? so the power driver's seat is practically free?? (I assume the rear armrest and overhead console cost less than a power driver's seat).

Can you please post the pricing for the other models, specifically the auto S?

Dealer cost of the Corolla S Manual is $18,729 and for Corolla S Auto is $19,691. That includes freight but excludes taxes.

Hi,

thanks for replying.

What is the cost of freight that dealers pay then?

Also, should i try bargaining on the final price after taxes or price before taxes?

Maybe someone else can help me out on this one but freight is just one of the many factors that is included in the cost of a car. It is like a flat fee for getting the car to the dealer or something like that. That cost is passed on to the consumer when you buy a car and MSRP listed prices don't usually include freight. It is usually shown as a separate cost after MSRP and is just passed on to the consumer with no mark-up. I apologize if this info is incorrect.

Hey, what about the XRS Manual, since you seem to have the whole report? Thanx!

Well yeah, freight (or PDI) is the cost the dealer forwards to you for shipping the vehicle as well as preparing the vehicle (removing all the plastics, putting plugs and things back after shipment and detailing the vehicle as well as doing a road test). Part of that cost goes to the dealer (the preparation part) and part of that cost goes to Toyota Canada (the shipping part). I have no idea how the costs are divided but PDI is usually something the dealer can negotiate on.

I mean... $1,000+ for shipping and preparing the vehicle? Mine came with a few defects (mudguards weren't screwed in properly and the rear bumper clip wasn't clipped properly) that were somehow overlooked during PDI so I don't know even know why I'm paying the dealer $1,000+ anyway if I don't see results. So if you can, negotiate on that figure.

I'd bargain on the price before taxes. It's just easier that way and you don't have to remove the taxes to figure out what you actually paid to the dealer.

Well, if you do the "Price your Toyota" on the toyota.ca website, it gives $1140 for the Freight and Delivery, so with that, the Invoice cost would go down to $17589 for the manual and $18551 for the Auto (S)

Comparing that to the posted MSRP, the dealer markup seems to be 7.62% for the manual and 7.68% for the Auto. I doubt the f+d is negotiable, even though it is actually highway robbery (IMHO) since a TMMC car bound for San Diego, CA, pays less f+d than the same car that is staying in Ontario. I think the price to bicker on would be the base price, something between the invoice and MSRP, since there is not much the dealer can do with respect to taxes collected by governments. Just my $.02, though, not meant to be professional advice or anything Not that I think many dealers would actually let you bargain this early into the model year--they are probably selling these like hotcakes [I'd love to be proven wrong on that last point, since I do intend to bargain when I finally get around to buying my XRS!]

For those in Ontario, close to Toronto, you can buy your car through A.P.A. Details are on their website: www.apa.ca...

They provide the invoice price to dealer, add an amount, and get you in contact with a salesperson. It doesn't matter what time of year, new model season etc. You may also be interested in knowing that the shipping/PDI price is also lower than that listed, so this can be negotiated as well. If you are paying hundreds for PDI, make sure you get the service department at the dealer to provide a copy of the inspection sheet Toyota provides. Most cars usually aren't done.

Whatever you do, don't fall for the bull at some dealerships like Whitby Toyota, Ontario, where they want a credit card deposit before they will talk price. Go somewhere else. Imagine going into a store and they want a credit card swipe before they let you know prices? Avoid this by all means and any other tactic they use to overcome customer objections....there's a whole book on this for salespeople.

I saved 1500+ off MSRP, which includes the new grad rebate, for the 2009 Manual Corolla S. Just the base model with no moonroof, and no accessories.
