Good things come to those who wait. I was going to get a Corolla S to save some bucks, but I changed my mind and am getting the XRS. Here's the details: XRS, 5spd manual, with the "A" package. A pack has the 6-disc CD changer, mats, cold kit, power package, oh and a moonroof as a bonus, and some other shit I can't remember right now. Of course, it will be Super White. Just like I wanted....actually, more than I wanted, I was going for the S, but you only live once. I drove the XRS today for close to an hour, and some other things have happened that made me go big. Do you guys know about "Internet dealing"? I learned about it on www.Edmunds.com - Go to it, use it....I will never buy a car thru a salesman ever again! Yesterday I decided on the Corolla over all the other cars I've been considering. So last night went to the Toyota website and configured the "S"...like I did a few hundred times. But this time I clicked on the green box "Get dealer Quotes" and filled out the info, gave my cell phone number to contact me. The MSRP came to $19,024. Sent this to 3 dealers in the Columbus area. I got a phone call, after 20 min, about 8pm last night. Got a quote of $17,007. I said, Whoa to myself! I thought that was damned good. Edmonds said people are paying close to sticker for the Corolla's.....obviously it needs updating. Then about an hour later I get an Email from the dealership that is closest to me, and I have history with. Their quote $16,899. The 3rd was $17,130. I was going to jump on anything around $18K, so these numbers floored me. I got crazy, with the intoxication of all this shit over the net and No Haggling! I got nuts and configured a white XRS and it MSRP at $21,494. This morning quotes, $19,800, another at 19,536. I was happy with the 19,536, but I didn't Email the dealership that's closest. I went in after work, test drove their 5 spd XRS, told em to beat it........they did. $19,486. $2K off sticker....I'm good with that, put a down payment, they'll get the car for me. I told em I can wait til June....but they sound confident they can get it alot sooner. Oh- and I can use the $500 off voucher, it's seperate from the dealership, from Corporate. That's a mail in rebate, I linked it in another thread. Plus today they offered new financing. 0%- 36mts, 1.9%-48mts and 2.9-60mts. Maybe the firery Email I sent to ToyotaUSA Sat nite had an impact.....at least I'm claiming It!
I know it's a long post- hope it helps someone out there. The salesmen hate the Internet bids. I've been driving the wife crazy the last couple of weeks, she's just glad to see me order the fk'n thing! I'll post pics of course, when I pick it up. I'll have to wash the Tundra and set em side by side, that'll be a Toyota ad big time! Later

Thats a crazy deal. I wish dealers up in Canada were just as competitive. Instead, its almost like a oligopoly here with rampant price fixing across the board.
I hope I don't stir up anything....that is not my intention. I wrestled with hitting the "send" key for several minutes, because I knew some people would have a bad taste in their mouth when seeing other's numbers. I paid almost MSRP on a $33K Tundra last year in March, only 1K off, and I see the deals guys are getting 8 months after I got mine. Some are 4~5K off now. So I feel your pain. I just know that I got one of the new and few Tundras early last year....and that's the price for it.
Side note: I have nothing but respect for Canadians...the only country, besides England, that has our back! If things are "fixed" in Canada about the pricing.....not our fault. Besides, now you know how We feel about the Drug Companies, and how we get ripped off down here! Don't get me started....I'll get all fired up and.....
Exactly why I did hit the send button! I just want to assist others out there that may not know about the Internet Buying and save them money, maybe major money. I'm no brain surgeon, just did some research, and point others to the Edmunds site. There will be others that will do better than me, and I will be happy for them, I'm happy with this deal. If it should tank and go south for some reason....then I got the other back-up quote for fifty bucks more.
Eric- It drove as smooth as the "S" but with more grunt. More low end torque, I could feel it. I didn't race it or hotdog it, but I did open it up on a curvy road near my house, it's like a mini road course. What a ride! I'm all jacked up thinking about it now, as I type! I didn't notice the throttle lag, but the steering was a little "sanitized"...does that make sense? With the Mazda 3, the steering was very "connected" to the road surface. With the Corolla it's different, hard to explain, kind of a numb feel. If I drove this car on the ragged edge of control in a hard sweeping high-speed turn, I'd worry about losing the feel of the contact with the road....and maybe get into trouble with that aspect. I hope this makes sense. I've had some high-speed drivers training in pursuits and dignitary protection, and this car can perform....it's just a different animal, and realize it's main purpose is not high-performance. Don't worry Eric, you will love this car. If you drive this car to the extreme, be prepared to have someone bond you out of jail. Didn't hear any rattles or wind noise (until I opened the moonroof). I did stand on the brakes a few times and didn't have any fade at all (as expected). Body roll was minimal, but I'm either driving a Tundra or my wife's rust bucket 94' Civic or a real POS city car w/ a million miles. The Civic Si and Mazda 3 would take it in a figure 8 race course, but it would be close to the Lancer. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....and this Corolla beats the others- Hands Down! I made a great choice, but it was a process and I did have fun driving the others. And next year........I'll still have a "new" car!

I just want set something straight. I don't hate the Corolla, I just hated it for the price they were selling. Now that they're lowering the price, I'm actually going to root for it. I just find nothing more dispicable than an over priced car that offers nothing special over the competition. But since they're knocking down $2,000... wow! $20,000 for an XRS is an awesome deal.
Yeah, I too don't hate our neighbors up north and europeans. I just hate it when they start by making comments about us yanks. Sure we have idiots for leaders but that doesn't mean the rest of the population are.
I know what you guys mean by products you produce being expensive for you to buy. I used to live in Alasky (salmon country) and we actually pay more for them than some guy in Florida despite the 4,000 mile trips in a freezer truck.
i think i should try that deal thing that you did...i plan on getting my car around june or july...after being unemployed for a few months i finally got my old job back and with a raise too so ya time to save up a bit then i'm ready to buy in a couple months...can't wait. i guess i'll just test drive again to see how it feels this time. at first i was thinking that paying $23,500 for a corolla is too expensive i started to look at other cars...i hope i can get a good deal thru the toyota site too. thanks for the info =)
maybe by then this might fit in the Corolla
it's for the tC but since it's the same engine, I'm sure it's just a matter of months until it becomes available.
Toyota wants to go green so they cut the 2ZZGE. The 2AZFE is better and is used in Camry, Rav 4, Scion tC & xB, Solara, and I think Highlander. It's a mature and common engine and not going anywhere unless something newer and better comes out in a few years.
The 5S-FE was used from about 1990 to 2001 in MR2, Celica, and Camry. The 2AZ-FE is basically a replacement for the 5S-FE so it'll be around for a few more years since it first appeared in 2001 or 2002 in the Rav 4 or Camry.

Yeah you guys have the buying power since you guys buy more cars than we do! But it's sickening when we used to be able to haggle and now we can't. Honda Canada's offerig 0% financing on their vehicles. I guess Toyota's doing 0.9% but of course on 08s like Honda is doing.

As far as I am concerned, there is no them vs us. North America is one big market..period. At least that was the intention of NAFTA. I can understand different prices between North America vs EU but Canada vs USA - gimme a break.
Yeah, it sux that we don't have the same access to the cars made in Ontario that people in the US have--it is very annoying to say the least. Toyota tried to justify the differences and pricing by saying Canadian market cars are made for the unique challenges of Canadian weather, which was kinda stupid for anyone who can read a map--I simply don't buy the argument that a car bound for Alaska or Minnesota is LESS able to handle the elements than one bound for Vancouver or the Niagara peninsula.
That said, we do get alloy wheels, heated mirrors and *gasp* variable intermittent wipers in Canada--standard on all but the lowest trim! I tried to price a US XRS using an upstate NY zipcode, but couldn't really add all I wanted to make it match a Canadian XRS for a meaningful MSRP comparison.
Hope you get your XRS soon, and do post pictures and keep the reviews coming
Nice! that's the way I see it.. If I'm going to buy a car, might as well go for the higher model now than skimp and then later on wish I had the bigger motor or the one with the nicer kit, etc..
