Hi guys, I'm Australian and my Toyota Corolla Ascent (base model) has just reached the milestone of 15 000 km, so I'd though I'd post a sum-up.
So far, there haven't been any issues with the vehicle. The engine is the same as ever, still quiet and refined. There are no rattles on the dash or inside. Basically, there's nothing to report.
According to the trip computer, I have averaged 9.3L/100km and an average speed of 26 km/h. The car is used to travel to and from work, usually in peak hour, and has never been on a highway or other high speed roads for a holiday or otherwise. According to a converter I just used after Googling, that's 25 mpg.
Happy motoring, fellow 10th gen Corolla owners.
How long have you had your Corolla for? The 10th gen just came out for a little over a month now here in Canada, I couldn't imagine anyone reaching that distance in such a small time.
We still don't have the sort of things that Europe gets, such as multimode automatic with paddle shifters, or multiple engine choices. Strangely though, we get a six speed manual, although our automatic is the same as the USA's, a four speed.
One thing I find surprisingly strange however, is the USA's general lack of features for models. I found it surprising that the USA's model has drum rear brakes, and that my base model is higher specified than the base model of the USA, having things such as power everything, with the exception of rear windows.
What surprised me most however, is the exterior appearance. The sports appearance model (The S model) doesn't even come with alloy wheels as standard? I've also seen the range topping model, the XLE in photos, and it also doesn't have alloy wheels as standard?
What's with that, I would have thought that only the base model would have wheel covers, like my car, but the upper models should at least look the part.
This I got off wikipedia, and it has alloys, but I don't really get the impression that its the range topping model??? It doesn't even have foglights...
I think that our Corolla Ultima (range topper) looks more the part than the US' model. A little chrome on the grille for the US won't hurt either...
Alphabeta777, are you sure the corolla's down there don't have projectors? Refer to this thread OEM HID's, where I found a picture on the australian site with headlights different from ours!
I am definitely sure there are no projectors. The difference is in the indicator design, and that is all I think. The USA's indicators are more orange, while our ones has less.
My Corolla has no HIDs and this is how the headlights look like. (sorry for blurriness)
The USA's Corolla as far as I know has pretty much the same sort of headlight. The top model in Australia has HIDs, but in the same headlamp unit, rather than having projector headlights.
The only 2 reasons I can think of why we get steel wheels on the base model: 1) Lower the cost 2) A lot of people will opt for after-market's anyway, why pay for alloys? I happened to like both the alloy rims offered, especially the 5 spoke XRS wheels. Toyota is opening a plant in India....those cars will come standard with a hitch to mount a Rickshaw, at least that's word on the street

In the US, the car prices are cheaper than that in Australia plus it gives the American market what they've always come to expect from cars - Options. They want to customise their cars as much as possible without costing an arm and a leg. (some may beg to differ).
In Canada, our LE model comes with fogs, alloys, smart key, Optitron gauges, sliding front armrest, wood trim, auto-climate control. A package adds one-touch power moonroof, 10-way power driver's seat, overhead console and a rear armrest. An auto-dimming mirror w/ compass is an accessory and can top off the LE as a range topper
