OK, the May "finance" rates for the '09 Corolla are the same 5.9% as in April (24 months thru 60 months,) does that mean they are basically selling every Corolla they make? I mean, the Canadian economy actually SHRUNK .02% in February, and all of the Corolla rivals have better financing deals in place:
Mazda 3 - 0% for 60 months (sure, it is a model getting old in the teeth, but still a contender)
Civic - 0.9% for 36 months 1.9% for 48 months 2.9% for 60 months
Elantra - 0% for 60 months
Jetta - 0.9% for 36 months
(for the nit-picky, yes, I know the remaining so-called '08 Corollas have similar pricing deals, but let's face it, whatever Toyota marketing says, this is technically a 2008 model--February/March 2008 release? So, a lot of people would be considering the '08 versions of the above mentioned vehicles vs. the '09 Corolla when making a decision, not the lame duck remnants of the last gen.)
*sigh*, I suppose I have to wait more for a better deal. It is ridiculous to be expected to pay 5.9% when the prime is 4.75% and headed downwards once more in June...
[Interestingly, the '09 Matrix has 4.9%, a full percentage point lower than the Corolla rate, for the 24 and 36 month terms--not selling that well or what?]
Same here... More Matrix than Corollas, the problem is that they're selling like hotcakes to the US, so if you want one in Canada I hear its like a 3-4months wait right now.

It better not be, the salesman told me 2-3 weeks and its already been 2 weeks exactly.
Wait depends on which model of corolla or matrix and the colour you ordered. But 2-3 weeks sounds pretty short right now.
As for sales, Toyota Canada set an all time record for sales in March. Seems as the economy get's tough, people gravitate to solid value & fuel efficient brands from Toyota.
As for the 2009 being a 2008, don't expect that there'll be a 2010 model until mid-2009...so you're getting a 2009 well in advance of the year (consider it a free bonus that'll help your resale).
3-4 MONTHS? Is that for a Corolla or a Matrix (or both?) Eeek, I was planning on getting the XRS sometime like September/October timeframe so that I'd have it before winter starts, but if it is going to take 3-4 months, might as well nurse the gen 8 Corolla until spring or something... 2-3 weeks, or a month and a half wait, I was kinda getting mentally ready for, but 3-4 months sound very excessive to me...
I work/ family owns Toyota dealerships in Calgary and the XRS is selling really well. Cant keep them in stock. S and CE are selling very well. Pain in the ass though as we still have 08 models left that we are trying to get rid of. The interest rates on the 09 models are a little steep so if you are a payment buyer the discount from 08 to 09 does not really help you.
cheers
My dealer will be putting in my order soon (Auto XRS Magnetic) but advised me that it usually takes around 2.5 months..... I'll probably give him a week or so (until he makes the order) before I try to get a more accurate timeframe out of him...

Crow,
He should be able to give you a much better idea of a time frame unless he has none in stock, none at the warehouse or enroute, and if there is none available in that area of canada....and that I would find hard to believe. Ask him to locate one or do a dealertrade, we have someone here and all she does is locates & trades. We are able to trade with other Toyota dealers in Canada and usually without a problem. PM if you have any questions or I can help out!
Cheers
Crow, there are none instock anywhere in Canada and none at the yards for immediate purchase. Also highly unlikely you'll be able to find a dealer who has one and will trade your dealer and XRS since they're a guaranteed sale and cash on the barrel.
Sooner you put your order in, the sooner it get's "reserved" in the order system and scheduled for build at the plant. FIFO. (first in first out) I'm afraid. I reserved my blue XRS 3 weeks ago and isn't scheduled to be built until June 4.
Huummm....That's a Wednesday. YEAH a Wednesday Car!
Yeah.... From reading the various posts I kinda figured as much..
Wanted to test one before putting down an order but as soon as a dealer gets one, it's sold within a few day. Finally managed to get my hands on one Monday and put in my order Tuesday. Got a call yesterday advising me that he couldn't find one anywhere and had to order it from the plant.
I'll give him a week before calling him up to confirm that he did placed my order with proper setup and try to get a build date out of him.
As long as I get it before winter (with the package I ordered), I'll consider myself lucky. Then it'll be a matter of getting rid of my 6.
I just got an email from the dealership, mine will be built June 24 and arrives 4 weeks after that (so about 3 months in total). Pissed off since they told me 2-3 weeks to begin with.
Wowsy... So much for all the predictions that the XRS was not going to sell a lot, eh? That's a very looong time horizon to get a car, I might have to rethink when I should be ordering it then. I too want to get it before the winter (although, by the looks of it, I probably would be getting it and driving it to the tire shop to exchange the shiny new alloys with snow tires!)
I do want to test drive an XRS but like 7th Crow, I haven't been able to locate one at any dealership so far--especially a manual tranny one, which is what I want to get. The closest I saw was a white auto XRS at a dealer at the other end of the city and I didn't have time to do a test drive when I saw that (was just passing thru and stopped for a few minutes to check their lot) Maybe I should try scheduling a test drive sometime in June/July and put the order in August and hope for the best?
Another question (and it might be a stupid one) When you put in your order, do you just pay down the downpayment and hold off until you get behind the wheel to pay them the rest? I wouldn't want to start paying for a car 2.5 to 3 months before I even get one!!!

If you want it before winter probably order it in July or August, but maybe by then the demand won't be quite as high as it is now. You have to make a deposit ($1000 for me) before they make the order, then you pay the rest when you pick up the car.
