When buying a new car in NY, does the dealer install licence plate right away?

Hi, I just got a 2009 new corolla in NY, the weird thing is that when the dealer gave me the car to drive off the lot, he had already installed the NY license plates on the car, and said that the stickers will come in the mail.

Is that normal? Because in CA, we get the license plate and the stickers in the mail. BTW, the car had 150 miles when I bought it because they have to drive it from Penn for an exchange or something. So i just want to make sure.

It just seems that it could have been purchased and plated already and then the tabs taken off, i have never heard of a dealing already having state plates on

hell when i got mine i made sure they didnt even drill holes for the front plate brackets and that is a law in my state

nc my situation is very similar to yours

the brackets were already there when my baby was delivered (NY requires both front + back plates so i guess that's why), my car was transferred from Bronx NY to Brooklyn NY, iuno what plates they used while doing that but basically on the day of delivery to me, the dealer already obtained the plates from the DMV, but it was not installed on the car, it was put in the office where we clear out the financial stuff. After all that is done, then the car salesman puts the plates on in front of me and puts on the inspection sticker + a temporary registration.

The official registration came 2 weeks later in the mail, and the title came like month and a half later

btw it sux they had to drive ur car from PA and put 150 on it lol mine had 31

yeah sometimes you have to deal with that though, 2 cars ago i had to get it delivered and it was 130 miles on it, otherwise it would have been a few months wait for that right color to come to my local dealer, or pay out of state tax crap!

My car had 14 miles on it (in which I put 10 trying to decide if I wanted it). It took almost 2 months for the plates, registration, and title to come into the dealer. But that really does suck for those miles.
