Drive by wire?

Can someone explain this drive by wire clutch thing? I'm currently driving a 5-speed '09 XRS but I wasn't aware that the clutch was any different from other cars.

its not actually the clutch its the throttle

instead of a "wire" its electronically controlled, as in when you push the gas pedal its not pulling or actually moving a part its sending a signal (you know like on your old car you could pull the cable and throttle up your car?)
This is known better has a electronic throttle or ETS for short if you have seen that around.

will all the electronis and safety put in cars these days its easy to have everything electronic so they can easily talk to eachother and things like traction control, DSC, or whatever can be added onto a car and have a i/o signal for the next gadget

Your clutch is no different from a honda clutch or kia clutch, they are all the same, (different sizes and part numbers of course!) its not dualmass and its not a race clutch, different weighted flywheels, different transmissions and the car itself is what makes a clutch feel how it does, nothing special

I could have been off a little, im not a professional, i just know some sh!t

Does Toyota care anymore about a long time loyal driver. I think the "Drive By Wire" might have a problem steering in the Toyota Corolla 09. I think radio interference might be the cause since the Toyota Dealer says they can't reproduce the problem.. only can show via video tape.

Whaaaaat are you talking about "Toyotatime"? Drive by wire is tried and tested technology which will save you a bundle down the road.

Radio interferance is an urban myth so I'm calling BS on this one. Evidence please...

Yup...
If the EPS steering goes...it's just be harder to parallel park your car (think about parking a "Hyundai Pony" and you've got the idea).

If the drive-by-wire throttle goes, you'll just slowdown and stop. God bless hazzard flashers.

Yeah, what a horrible thing to have in a car... a system that if broken, your car wouldn't work properly... oh goodness, when will it ever end?

Even if the worse possible situation ever happened, and the throttle was open all the way, turn the car off... that was hard?

Haha. I'm very used to driving older Toyotas and/or other enthusiast-type vehicles, and had no trouble at all when I got my XRS.

If you REALLY have a problem with it, get a throttle controller, like the Blitz one or that other one... can't remember the name now, I was considering it for mine just to get a bit more response when heel/toe downshifting, but it's a pricey piece. I do think it's very nice though, I've used the Blitz one in a Yaris before.

Wikipedia:
Failures in the control systems can result in an unstoppable runaway vehicle - if the throttle, ignition and transmission are all beyond the direct control of the driver there is no effective way to stop the vehicle in such an event.
