Arrow Horn Mods.

As requested, here's a thread about horn mods. The one that came with the car was very weak and it's just ashame to use it. So I have decided to put in a pair of air horns.

If you are in Toronto, you may visit Tons of Tools in Scarborough and they sell complete air horn kit for only $20CDN; can't go wrong for $20, eh...

Here're some photos to share...

These horns are loud and they do scare people. However, I have found that the horns aren't that loud when you are traveling @ high speed (over 100km/h) as compared with a pair of disc horns with each rated @ 132db.

On my old Matrix, I installed a pair of disc horns I got from Canadian Tire (Fiamm brand). The cost was $28CDN each. They gave good result as well in terms of scaring people

Stay away from one-piece air horn with compressor built-in (which is available from eBay). Even though it's rated @ 139db, it's very weak...

A lot of people like to purchase Hella horns but they aren't as loud as compared with my cheap air horns nor the Fiamm horns. However, the Hella horn does look sharp, heh.

By the way, I don't think the sound recording does any justice to the horns...It's better if you hear it in person ;p

My next horn...

Damn Eric, that's pretty loud. I never thought about the stock horn being a problem. I think I will test it out tomorrow. Thanks for the mod idea.

I dunno, sometimes a horn like that is needed to scare the crap out of some bad drivers, or even J-Walkers. LMAO

but random scares like that video are pretty funny to watch

ImEric!!!! come to the TN meet in Scarborough this saturday!!! I have a set of airhorns I want to install but I want to see your setup first for ideas.

BTW I think if you put it somewhere away from the grill where lots of air comes through, you might get better sound at high speed.

I put high and low Hellas on my car - cuz the 9th gen horns are weak too... They saved me once, when a blue haired old woman and her blue haired old woman friend decided to just back up. Problem was, I was in their way with a car behind me. One good blast stopped all rear-ward travel. Some people... she never even looked before she started back.

They where a good investment for me.

Indeed... they are very useful. But scaring people off for no reason is just stupid. I don't understand why other people find that funny.
