First, the car is light as a feather. It moves in a slight breeze. Is this because the lightness of the car makes it good on gas mileage?
Second, the engine moves if you shake the car, and when I say move I don't mean a slight sway. It's like shaking all over the place. Is this normal / acceptable? I know that I shouldn't doubt Toyota when it comes to engines, but it shaking all over the place, scares me just a bit.
Lastly, WTF is up with the sound system. I got the S, I didn't get the regular ol' LE and the sound system sounds like my granny's riviera. What should I do to improve the sound? I know I need new speakers, but, should I just go with a subwoofer or should I just replace the 6x9's or whatever? The treble sounds good, but, the bass is very inadequate.
i dont know about the shaking part, but as for the sound system...
any upgrade in speakers is good. But from my own experience in past cars, a little bass is good, but too much could loosen some parts in the car and do more damage than good. So if you do go with with a Sub, dont go crazy with like two twelves... a nice 8" or 10" will give you enough bass to enjoy the music without messing up your new car.
also, you will definately have to replace the stock stereo if you go for a sub, because I don't think the stereo comes with Sub outputs. So keep an eye out for the dash kit.
Up here in Canada we weren't given the JBL upgrade option so I think we have the same system that you have in your S model. Personally my stereo has OK quality, but sometime down the road I will be upgrading. I'm in no rush though because I do not want to void any warranties.
Yea, I guess the sound is okay, but I'm so used to / spoiled by my JBL sound system I had in my camry. Maybe I'll wait until I can find a totaled camry / '09 carolla and just get the JBL speakers out of it from the salvage yard for cheap.
well i plan on treating my corolla like myself. No organ donations. once it dies it will be burnt to a crisp in an oven so no one can scavenge it for parts.
As far as I know, this generation is a good 300lbs heavier than the last. (most cars are getting heavier with changing safety regulations)
The "lightness" you are feeling comes from ESP, which several reviews have complained about. The drive home I felt like I was all over the road, but 2k miles later I have adjusted.
You probablly shouldnt be shaking your car.
Actually I noticed this too, but I havent really thought much of it, just assumed it was part of the deal.
As for the speakers, I went with the 6 speaker set-up, and its average at best. However I listen to Sirius most of the time, which is pretty low quality anyway. You can opt for some upgrades, but I am hesitant myself as it may develop new rattles. I might hold out till others try it, or do my best and try to apply some sound deading materials along the way.
Yea, I didn't mean to shake it actually I leaned against it very lightly and it started to move. I was surprised and the hood was open so I could see the engine moving around too.
I felt like I was all over the road too the first time I drove it home. What does ESP have to do with this exactly?

Yea me neither with the organ donations.
If you wreck your car and total it you have no say on if it's burnt or sent to be salvaged or if it's fixed and re-sold.
not sure what your talking about but i have the S with the JBL speakers and its great. You do have to adjust the bass and treble on cd/xm/radio ... each one keeps a different setting but my mirrors shake nicely when i turn it up to 20 . im happy with it but will be installing my old system for an extra oomf

i think these guys are talking about the stock S 6 speaker audio system, not the JBL upgrade....i got that stock 6 speaker system too...sounded great the first 3 weeks...then it started to rattle lol im looking for replacements too
I know what you mean, I opened the trunk and looked and listened to the speakers, very low quality. I think I am going to put some new speakers in the back for sure.

The easiest way to imagine it is to see it like a steering wheel on an arcade game. In fact, that's almost exactly what EPS is, except now you're driving a real car instead of one in a video game.
The plus side to EPS is that it allows very precise turning control, and it also contributes to the outstanding MPG of the car.The downside to it is that the steering wheel will feel soft, giving you the impression that the car is unusually light. Which it isn't - as someone already stated, the current gen Corolla is actually heavier than previous gens. Finally, if it really bugs you, someone suggested getting wider rims, changing the tires and maybe even the springs too. This will give the steering system a little more feedback from the road, and the steering wheel will feel firmer as a result.
