Eps

Just curious, how many of you 09 rolla owners are so dissatisfied with the EPS you are considering getting rid of it? I like the way the vehicle handles below 60mph, but above Always correcting to keep a straight line down the highway. Think I may go drive a civic this weekend.

is it really that bad? i'm on the vibe forums reading about the 09 vibes and people say the car drives great and on the hwy it's perfectly straight and stuff. right now i'm still debating wether to get the 09 corolla xrs or the 09 vibe gt. maybe the vibe's independent rear suspension makes it drive better? no idea =/

I don't think its bad, just different.

Then again I don't expect much from my car, just great mpg. (i have a 800mi per week driving habit)

I just got my XRS today. Drives fine. HAve had a demo to drive previously for 5 days to Montreal and back. It's definitely stiffer steering, but feels more sure footed than my old XRS - but that's to be expected with a more solid vehicle which is simply "different". Not sure what all the fuss is about about excessive corrections.

I have no problems with it at all. I just did a 400 mile roundtrip (90% hwy) and had zero issues in regards to the steering. Would not get rid of the car because of it...plus the corolla gets better MPG than the civic.

Mine seems to struggle maintaining a straight line when driving at speeds greater than 60mph. I don't even think there's that much wind during the drive (I live in So Cal OC). Can't really complain though because the mpg makes up for the lack of stability.

The XRS has this problem too, just not as severe.

I have noticed this same slight wandering in my "S" at over 50 mph. But I still love the car. Thought I'd try an alignment check next.

I had the dealer check the alignment also but I didnt notice any difference. I was wondering if a firmware upgrade might help some. Just a thought and it probably wouldnt happen for some time to come anyhow.

For what its worth I called the toyota consumer affairs office in California today and expressed my concerns about the steering. Anyone with this issue needs to call and complain as this is going to be the only way Toyota will fix this issue.

Their number........1-800-443-4999

Thanks for sharing this article. Sounds like a job for someone more familiar with the electromechanics of the vehicle, not me. Hopefully Toyota will come out with a TSB in the near future to fix this issue.

What exactly do you mean by "stiffen the rear"?
