Canada Lookers...

I was wondering if anyone else had a few stories of people checking out their new 09 Corolla. I love catching people checking it out when they think no one is watching. I have two stories...

First one was when my wife and I were in a local Canadian Tire Store. The store was closing and there weren't too many other people in the store/parking lot. We came out of the store and a young guy and his girl friend were parked near our new Sport and they were walking around it checking it out. He was driving a Civic. He looked a little embarassed when he realized we were the owners. He didn't say anything, just got in his car. I would have gladly answered any questions he had!

My second story; we live near the US border. I go to the states to buy my gas (saves me 12-15 dollars a tank). When we were going through US Customs, the US border guard asked us more about the car than what we were entering the States for...What kind of car is that? How many miles do you get from a tank of gas? How many miles on it now? etc etc. Nice guy!

I am sure some of you have a few funny stories to tell.

when i bought the car it was like the only one around for miles and even now after almost 5 months of release the new 10th gens are just starting to pop up around brooklyn, but when i first got it and i drove it into a burger king parking lot, some guy walking towards the BK saw the car and blurted out "what the hell is that?"

iuno if he thought it was ugly or he thought it looked cool but he had utter confusion on his face so i guess he couldnt figure out what the car is lol

XRS here. I live in a flat one story apartment complex, so my car is parked just 10 feet away from my window. One morning I had just woken up and heard two guys talking outside. Painters or something - the complex was doing some remodeling around that time. Anyway, they stopped briefly in front of my flat, and a moment later I heard one of them say, loud and clear:

"Is that a Toyota??"

The second incident happened in the parking lot at the mall. I had just parked my car, and as I was walking away I noticed two 20 something guys rushing past me in the direction of my car. I heard one of them say "Hey, check this out!", and took a quick glance back. Sure enough, they were marveling at my car like it was a Porsche or something. Later on I spotted them getting back into their own car. IIRC it was a Celica, which probably wouldn't have been so surprising, but still, it proves that the new Corolla isn't as invisible a car anymore.

Finally, two weeks ago I noticed a new car in our lot. Turns out that the guy living across from me, whom I don't even know, went and got a new silver '09, base model, after my XRS had been in the vicinity for just over 2 months. IMO that's one of the best compliments so far.

XRS here... Had a gentleman at a local Great Canadian Superstore(Loblaws) check it out, I was walking back to my car and was following this man and his wife towards my car. The man stopped and said "Honey, What about one like that? Its a toyota, so it is going to last and this way I wont get teased about driving the minivan to work"

Then I unlocked the doors and my XRS beeped at him. Doing its "WINK". and then the guy jokingly said, "see its even winking at me, it wants me to buy one".

Nice guy, I ended up talking with him about the XRS for a few mins after in the parking lot. He was curious about Price, Fuel Consumption, Power, drive, handling, the who 9 yards...
The wife was a lil bitchy though... I dont think she'll let that guy get one. Maybe a CE... but not an XRS.

Was on my way back last weekend from Niagara Falls with my brand new blue XRS - so was still babying it in the right-lane doing 60mph. Watched a number of cars fly by me with some slow down to get another look. Even watched a bunch of American's from Michigan slow right down and pace me for a few minutes to get a better look. Almost made me wonder if they don't get blue Corolla's in the US.

And a view from the " other " side Someone a couple of blocks from me has a girlfriend (I think) who owns an LE--the first time I saw it, it was actually funny; picture me, coming home from a class I was taking, passing this black Corolla, stopping--backing up on the street and parking right behind it to check it out. I doubt they saw me peering into it and walking all around but if they did, they must have been amused. I see that car from time to time, almost always parked in the same place and once I saw a lady driving it off, hence my assumption of a visiting girlfriend--the car is not there all the time for her to be living there.

I liked the looks of the auto climate control but wasn't that impressed with the plood... If I ever get an LE (which I never would, since they don't come in stick shift models) that trim would get replaced with the XRS counterpart so fast you could smell the (fake) wood burning...
