What is "elapsed time"?

This may be a dumb question but,
In the gages, you have the option to see the "elapsed time".

I had no idea what "elapsed time" was referring to, so i turned to the owner's manual. And it says, "Displays the elapsed time since the engine was started or since the function was reset".

So I checked mine and it said, "21:19".

21 hours, 19 minutes??? hmmmm... my only guess is that it keeps track of exact time that the engine has been running.

does this sound right?
does anyone know officially what that means?

Ya it can be used to track Engine Runtime from purchase....

or you can reset it and track how long your engine is running for during a roadtrip.
Kind of handy if you are doing a long trip. At the end you can find out how many hours you were driving exactly.

It rolls over actually, I am not sure at what point...I spend too much time in my car.

Just to track your driving time (e.g. how long it takes you to drive to your destination)
