My mom has a 2009 Corolla with keyless entry, but unlike my 2006 Corolla, she has no keyhole on the passanger side to lock or unlock the door.
I wonder if the basic model without the keyless entry has a keyhold on the passenger side?
i have keyless entry on my XRS and it has no key hole on the passengers side either, probably a cost cutting thing

Often in the winter ice may stop the key from unlocking the door, so there is always the other side.....for those who don't have a keyless entry. Now, they can't get in.....
Since most new vehicles are equipped with keyless entry the right side door lock is really not necessary. I've never opened my door with the key on either one of my current vehicles. In the event of an emergency, the driver's door still has a key slot.
We are fast approaching the extinction of the key. It is an ancient mechanical device whose time has passed.
Noticed this too when I swapped my 09 base Corolla (CE) to an 09 LE. I am firmly sure that the base model I got which has no Keyless Entry system has Keyholes on the driver's door and the front passenger door, and then my LE has only one keyhole (driver's door) as soon as I discovered this, my literal expression was (with a head scratch)..first time seeing this kind of design..i was like what the...???? found it weird for the first time..
I test drove a Mitsu Lancer a while back, as you near the car with key in pocket, it automatically unlocked and you could start it by just turning the key(less) assembly. Seemed wierd...if your near your car, could someone jump in and drive off? Would it stop after getting a few feet away? It be cool to have push button start like on a Lotus.

Many new Nissans have a push button to start and shut off the engine. All you have to do is have the key nearby.
I don't know what happens if the key leaves its range while the car is running... interesting question.
i believe with those smart key systems that if someone does jump in while your in range of your vehicle, they can drive off, BUT, as soon as the vehicle is outside a certain range from your smart key, it will shut off and basically disable itself, so unless ur running after ur car and keeping it in your range the car won't go far
Your Mom have a Canadian LE like mine with "Smart Key"..
There is no keyholes in the whole car. Not in the steering, ignition, doors or trunk.
I have tried starting the engine and walk away from the car to see if the engine keeps running and it does.
This brings back a anecdote(sp) about a couple going to a show and let the valet park their car. They have to leave the remote with the valet. After the show valet drives their car to them and they drove off. It's only when they are half way did they realise the valet still have their remote. It's funny but quite scary.
