According to Lexus.com the IS 250 RWD Manual does zero to sixty in just under eight seconds (7.9) and a quarter mile time of 16 seconds. Seems slow for a 6 cylinder with over 200 hp and over 180 lb-ft of torque...
In my stock '09 Corolla (manual 2.4) priced over $10,000 dollars less I can achieve zero to sixty in 7.4 seconds and my quarter mile time is 16.1 seconds. I have 158hp and 161 lb-ft of torque. It is front wheel drive.
And I was challenged at Duntire Raceway by an
IS 250 RWD Manual owner who wanted to take it to the track. I turned him down thinking I would get smoked, now I don't think I would have done so badly...
As a side note I also have many of the same features as the IS 250, including 17" alloy rims, tilt/slide sun roof, bluetooth, 6-disc in dash CD changer, built in XM satellite radio, heated seats and mirrors, defeatable VCS and traction control, Cruise control, to name a few.
both cars are very similar.... think of it this way... The IS family is the RICH/Wealthy cousin of the Corolla family. Only difference is luxury, power, and a slightly different body. But relatively the same.
HOWEVER... the XRS is the closest to the IS family. CE is like the ghetto cousin of them all.
Obviously neither of you have ever driven an IS250 otherwise this thread would not have been started nor the reply above. Yes in straight line drag racing the IS250 is not a rocket ship but that is as close as you will ever get to the IS250 w/ a Corolla. The IS250 is about handling and luxory. It accels very well at both. Go test drive a IS250 and then try and compare the two.
The IS250 is heavy and sold as a luxory sport sedan the Corolla is a economical commuter and weighs much less than the Lexus.
Close? No. Not even in the same league. $20,000 is closer to the price difference than $10K.
Please..you cannot compare. The Corolla was designed to be great in gas not to take it to the track. Thats like taking a Ford Pinto to the track.....LOL
the is250 is pretty heavy at over 34hundred pounds, plus 4cyl cars feels lighter off the line for some reason...the lexus has more luxury stuffs and better fit and finish...nicer looking too...people in corollas don't get the respect as people in the lexus...you feel more confident walking out of a lexus than a corolla lol it's just different...can't really compare the two...just like there's 2 versions of the is...the 250 and 350...for those who can afford it or wants the extra power will get the 350 so it's like people who wants a "faster" corolla will get the xrs with the bigger engine. if you're going by the 0-60 times then i guess the corolla xrs is better than the 250 lol

OKAY... other than the way different cars make some people "feel" I still think the XRS is not far below the IS 250 if at all. Thats like saying "you feel more confident wearing Armani than Levis, so Armani clothes are infinitely superior." This may or my not be true but just because thats how many people feel about Armani does not MAKE it true. Try going hiking or camping in an Armani suit sometime.

As a matter of fact I did go test drive an IS 250 RWD Manual and IMHO I could see the obvious differences but definitely not $10,000+ of them.
Perhaps YOU should go test drive an XRS.
My previous car was a 2005 4banger Camry SE and I can tell you the XRS is a huge improvement over it, not the other way around. Many people have successfully argued that the Camry in the same league with the IS 250 (other than, ofcourse, the way the symbol on the hood makes some people think they feel when other people see tham getting out of it )
Just knowing that my stock XRS can beat a much more expensive car off the line is enough for me, and hedrix I wouldn't waste 18 grand on the 1.8 liter XLE when I could go just as slow in a 14,000 dollar CE, or perhaps the 12,000 Yaris would be a better fit.... BTW keeping that car clean, lmao

The two cars are not in the same league. One is a pedestrian FWD commuter car, albeit a nice one. The other is an entry-level RWD luxury sports sedan. On paper, many specs compare favorably. In person and behind the wheel, the differences are obvious. Road feel and handling of the Lexus is far superior. With that said, the IS 250 was well within my budget, I considered it, yet I bought a Corolla XLE. That's how impressed I was with the Corolla. The Lexus' price difference just wasn't worth it to me. 0-60 and 1/4-mile times are besides the point. Just enjoy and take care of what you have. And sleep well knowing you're getting great fuel economy and probably saved enough money buying the Corolla to cover fuel costs for the life of the car.

Are you just talking about straight line acceleration?? If so, then yeah, you have an argument. However, a performance car is more than just straight line.
If you're talking about overall performance package, then i will have what you're smoking! Lexus IS250 will run circles around Camrys and Corollas on the track.
Other than straight line performance and fuel economy, there is nothing similar or close to similar between Corollas and IS250.
