Corolla 2009 JBL sound system + powered subwoofer?

Hey,
I'm planing to get a subwoofer for my car hopefully a powered subwoofer. I did get JBL audio system feature for my car. Will that be compatible with any powered subwoofer I get? Currently I'm looking at this VISONIK VBX12A 500w 12"powered subwoofer.
Amplifires features
Amplifier Features:

* Rated at 225 watts
* Gain control
* Variable crossover frequency from 30 to 200 Hz
* RCA-type, line-level stereo inputs

Can a woofer damage cars audio system?

My other question is, would it be a fuss connecting a powered subwoofer in my car? I'm going to get it done by a tech but will it require a lot of wiring in my car like you know is it gonna mess up everything?
What do you guys suggest.
Thanks a lot for your help

I think that you are exploring a whole new audio area concerning the JBL upgraded audio system. I also would like to add a subwoofer and/or upgrade the door speakers on my JBL system. Any help out there would be appreciated by at least the two of us.

You could use a Hi-Low converter for your rear speakers to convert the line into RCAs for the amp. And then wire up the amp kit, the only part that I ever had trouble with was which wire to hook up to the Remote wire for the amp. Its not that difficult to be honest for a trained technician....I am not one, but I could do it. I say you're on the right track by having a pro install it. but to answer your questions, it would not be a fuss to wire it up. but search the forum and there is someone who hooked up a system in their rolla and the bluetooth would act wierd. Granted he had 2 seperate amps one for the interior speakers and one for the sub. but you should be fine.

You will need one power wire running from the battery to the trunk where you put the sub. You might be able to get away with 8 gauge, but I think 4 gauge might be better. I don't know the power handling of 8 gauge at the length you need.

To get the signal to the sub, you'll need a line out converter (sometimes called high to low converter) that will take the signal from your speakers and attenuate it to line level. You then connect the output via RCAs to the input on the powered sub. Some powered subs and amps already have high-in so then no need for line out converter.

The remote wire triggers the amp power. It's similar to powering the coil on a relay but I don't know if it's the same thing. Aftermarket headunits have an output for this. The stock one does not. You have two options here. You can hook up the remote to the accessory line such as the cig lighter or power port and the amp will turn on when you turn your key to accessory regardless if the radio is on. The other solution is that there are devices that use speaker signal to generate a remote signal and sometimes this feature is built into the line out converter.

Any competent tech should be able to do this install no problem.

As far as your choice for a sub though...I dunno...$50 from Wally World just doesn't seem like you're buying a quality item that will do justice for your JBL system. If I were you, I'd look into something like an Infinity Basslink, but that's some $200 more.

If you have a competent tech install it correctly, your system should not be damaged.

I meant that the Visonik sub might not sound very good.
