Instrument panel too dim in daylight

I find the instrument panel way too dim in daylight. To solve this problem I have been putting a card over the light sensor on the dashboard so that the instrument panel lighting is always on.

Am I causing some other problem by doing this?

Is there some other way to solve the dim gauges problem? Don't other people feel that the instrument panel is way too dim during the daytime?

Thanks for any help --

I assume you don't have an XRS or XLE then? (They have the dash brighter during daylight).

Haven't heard any complaints like that yet.

the knob on the right side of the gauges sets the light. Turning it to the right till it clicks sets it to the "headlights on" brightness level.

But I prefer my gauges dim personally.

I have mine turned all the way down. If I turned mine up all the way I feel like the inside is glowing. What model do you have?

I do too, it allows me to keep more focus on the road ahead instead of a bright glow within the cabin.

I have them full on in the daylight but at night they are at about half. At full they are just far too much.

I have an LE -- I have the knob to increase the brightness but during the daytime there are no lights at all on the panel. I wasn't aware of the click setting at the far end of the knob. That may solve my problem.

I have tinted windows so that may contribute to my problem.

My LE doesn't have a click setting on the brightness control. I guess I'll have to keep using the card over the light sensor trick.

Any one have any other ideas?

if you are really serious in having a very bright backlighting on your gauges, have someone good to replace them with bright LEDs. you can even choose color like blue or green or red or yellow or purple or orange. that im sure you wont complain about it anymore.

It is not a question of brightness or color of the LEDs; the problem is that the light doesn't come on at all during the daylight. Unless I block the dashboard light sensor.

if that is the case you still can have someone do it for you by bypassing the light sensor switch so that it will be in the ON position all the time. its just a matter of tweaking the connection after opening up the whole instrument panel including the dashboard.

Maybe you have something wrong...

In daylight my Optitron type gauges are full brightness. At night I have them at half.

The brightness adjust is the right knob...just turn it to adjust the brightness. In Canada the LE and XRS models have these. In the US its the XLE and XRS. Regular LE has standard gauges.

I even looked it up in the manual. Its on page 138

The illumination is not on during the day on models without optitron gauges. I don't see why you'd need it to be on.
