Warning buzzer when does is opened?

This morning when I parked at worked I noticed for the first time, when I opened my door and gathered my things, a steady buzzer went off like the one when you open the door with the remote. Lights were out, key in hand. I closed the door, opened it again, waited and nothing. What could that have been. Any ideas? It was about 45 seconds after the door was opened.

My Canadian LE does that. I take it to mean my door is open.
First time it did that I checked gear in P, Parking brakes on, lights off. I just close the door and lock it. No ill effects so far.
The smart key takes a getting used to.

Only time mine does it is when you press the lock button on the keyfob when the doors aren't closed yet. It beeps until you close all the doors, at which point you can then lock the car.
