Vents in trunk what are they for?

There are 2 vents in the trunk on on each side i am in the middle of sound deadening my car right now and the air coming from out side is making my car louder with those vents i am about to take them out then put my sound deadener over the vent spots then call it a day unless someone can tell me why they are there and what purpose they will do if i do cover them up?

Let the air out when you close your trunk or the doors.

so in other words these vents are pointless. I am going to be covering them up unless someone else can tell me a good reason not to.

Yep, if you want to slam the trunk or door close or, I guess, you can close them slowly so air won't trap inside. Just block them off and find out.

Unless you drive with your windows open all of the time. The air coming into the interior from the ventilation system needs somewhere to go or it will not function properly. If there is no escape for the air coming in, the system will eventually become less efficient (the interior will pressurize to some degree) and the effectiveness of any ventilation will decrease (increase fogging of the windows and less fresh air).

the only thing though that doesnt make sense about this is that the seats are up and there is no way for the air to get to the trunk any how... So how would the air get to there if everything is blocking it off ex. seats rear dash speakers windows... so how is it going to get to the back of the trunk? However i do drive alot with my windows down and i mean alot. So if i do cover them up what is the worst case scenario?

just cover all the vents for now. then just find out later what the results are. you can always take out those dynamats anytime you want.

Even with the rear seats up there's still plenty of air moving from the passenger compartment to the trunk area. I would not block those vents, as the air flowing through the trunk will refresh/replace the air in the trunk, inculding damp humid air. Most cars have had some type of flow through vetilation through the trunk for 20+ years. If you like damp humid air to collect in your trunk and start the rusting out process sooner, then go ahead and cover the vents up.

I can think of no good reason to block the vents. All cars have vents.

Canada Vent holes under the carpet.

The vent hols under the carpet might drain holes if they are in the tire well, if they are higher then the tire wells they may be vent holes to let moist air out as the truck air is colder than the passenger compartment air in the winter.
