Automatic shifter

Do you prefer the 2009 automatic shifter or the previous version shifter?

I drive my 2006 and my mom's 2009, and I still prefer my shifter, all in a straight line, rather than sideways.

When I have to toggle from reverse to drive, I find it quicker with the old shifter.

It looks higher end the way it is now, its like that to eliminate the side button on former models

gated shifter is way better. the old ones looks like a head with a big bump on the side. LOL

I think its more of a safety feature than practical. If there is a child sitting in the passenger seat, they wont be able to move it out of Park as easily, especially that they can't reach the brake pedal.

Plus, with the gated shifter (sans button) you can get a differant shifter to suit your taste.

You still move it up/down. You don't have to physically move it sideways you know. I don't mind either design.

why? if you go ask Toyota, you'll find out. I know that Hondas have not gone to the gated shifters, as have many others (BMW, MBZ, etc.)
